While I am waiting on my carbs rebuild and some parts that arebon order. Today I started on the rebuild of my rear wheel. It went pretty much as I expected and didnt find anything unusual. I did run into a problem with one of the bearing retainers. Lets just say it took a lot of persuasion to get it out. But I did get it out and I hope I havent ruined the threads in the hub. So if anyone has a retainer I`m in the market ( see parts wanted thread ). I`m also gonna tackle replacing the foam in my seat.........Gary

Retainers are still available from (and not too expensive)

CMSNL:

http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb750-four-k4-usa_model482/partslist/F++17.html#results

Service Honda:

I'm sure other places have them too. Maybe even your local dealer.

Very nice Gary! The retainers are available. The issue with cms is the $37 shipping tacked to any order. I got mine from jtmarks on eBay. Now here's the other issue I had. I put the new retainer in and it was just too new and I'm pretty sure I accidentally cross threaded it. I got it about halfway in with a lot of persuasion. Going in and coming out. Well then I got it in more and it just bonded shut. Took me another 45 minutes and help from my dad to hold it to get leverage to get it out. I ruined the new retainer and the first half of the threads in the hub. I changed the seal in the old retainer and put it back in. Went in perfectly and the last half of the threads plus 4 punch marks are holding it just fine. Live and learn. Be careful and make sure your threads on the hub are cleaned out. Even rake them with a thread pitch gauge.

Finally got the parts to finish my rear wheel and also found the time to make the new foam pad for my seat. The wheel bearings were just too easy with no real surprises. But the seat........I was really surprised at how rusty the seat pan was under the foam. I spent over 2 hours with a wire brush and 24 grit bondo eater sandpaper to get it clean enough to spray with a self etching primer and spray black. It took at least half a day to shape the foam to fit the seat cover. After repeated soaking in armor all the vinyl actually got soft again and looks pretty good. I`m not happy with the buckles on the strap they are so rusty they look terrible . Anyone know where to find the buckle ? Also shipped my carbs of to SOHCdigger. Hope to have them back by mid March. I bought a rear fender off of fleabay for $20 in the pictures it looks pretty good should have it by Friday. During the downtime its time to attack my rusty spokes..........gary

Gary, check out this seat hardware. Not OEM, but looks pretty good and not China made...

I`ve seen those on ebay but from what I hear the quality is not very good. My strap is okay its the buckles and hardware that are so rusty. If I had a small piece of stainless steel could probably cut one out...............Gary

I just found out the rear fender that I got off of ebay is for a 1977 750 and will not fit my K1. I contacted the seller and he shipped me the wrong fender and apologized for the error . He agreed to refund the return shipping and send me the correct fender. Why doesnt it surprise me that everything I try to do is always beset with delays. I just hope the K1 fender looks as good as the 1977. With my luck it will look like my old seat foam.lol.......Gary

Mistakes happen. At least the seller has been good about correcting the problem.

It does suck though. I've been there.

At least the seller is being a stand up guy and fixing the mistake.
