One of the best anywhere is about 20 miles south.  In Waterford.  Phil's Cycle Shop,  AKA "The Honda Doctor", 1426 Crescent Lake Rd, Waterford, MI 48327.  (248) 673-6247 .  You will find nothing but classic Hondas in his shop.  I'll warn you though... Don't pretend to be an expert, and don't lie.  If you did something to screw something up, don't tell him it just happened on its own.

I will warn you that he does not work cheap.  He knows about everything there is to know about SOHC hondas and I'm sure that you can't find anything that he hasn't already done.  Also-don't take in your bike/part all crudy with oil and mud.

Whatever you do don't take it to a Honda/PowerSports dealership! You'll end up with more wrong with it.

I've found that stepping out of my comfort zone, as far as repairs on these bikes goes, has almost always turned out to be wasted worries. Most things have turned out to go pretty easily, and most snags you may encounter have been discussed at length here.

Got the manual yet? It alone contains 99% of the info you'll need to do any repairs. :)

Just wondering... Just what isn't in your comfort zone?  If your talking about something like new valve guides, because of the special tools required, I can se having it done, but if you talking about cleaning the carbs... Well about anything major on the engine will require taking off the carbs, so I would suggest you get used to it.  To have it done is going to add way too much cost to an old bike.

Thanks for the replies. This is my first bike so my comfort zone is relatively small. While I'm mechanically inclined enough to take things apart and put them back together with no extra parts I think I'd like to take it to a guy thats been around the block several times with these bikes mainly just to check my work. Would be pissed if I put all this time in, set something wrong or over looked something small and blew it up. Thanks again guys.

+1 on Phil he is AWESOME and a dying breed. Cafe Racer Ypsi in Ypsilanti is another good one and they are REALLY involved in the whole cafe scene. They also have a great bike nite.Another good one is Honda Center of Warren, I used to go on there for parts. I can't remember the old guys name behind the counter, but he could disect your bike from behind the counter,he is very knowlegable. I have since moved and relocated Outa state but those are a few. Good luck.
