Slight play in upper suspension
« on: August 21, 2012, 02:44:44 PM »
Hey guys, my 78 750F has begun to get a little play that seems to be in the upper neck area.  If I am going down a steep hill and hit the front brake you can feel a little clunk when it's under pressure like that.

Does this make sense?

Is this the neck bearings going bad or should I be looking for something else?

Sounds like the steering bearings, they may just need tightened. Get the front wheel off the ground and give the forks a few tugs in various directions, this will let you know what is "clunking". Also check the forks move smoothly from lock to lock. If it isn't completely smooth replace the bearings with new tapered ones.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Thank you!

I should go thru everything and make sure there is nothing lose because this all started within a few weeks of me replacing the upper triple tree with a new shaved one.

lesters right,if your up for it replace the loose ball assembly with the tapered type, the loose ball ones get flat spots etc and when you try and adjust them up you then get a tight spot,if its been clunking itll cause pits and flat spots if left for any amount of time, you might get away with nipping it up?
