CRMC Donnington
« on: August 12, 2012, 11:27:41 am »
Just had a great day at Donington park, CRMC meeting, topped off with Morton Storsveen from Norway, winning the last 750cc race on his CR750.

Yes I was there too a great day and yes Morton Storsveen beat Gary Thwaites on his Norton 960 in the penultimate race of the day. Bob Hall was there too for those who know of him, a forum member and John Davies had his 500/4 too ridden by Richard Wilson, not a good day for him though.

yes i was there as well , a great days racing and i was glad to see that the grids were all full . dont judge rob halls performances too harshly , he had a very serious head injury 18 months ago and despite having raced at donnington many many times could not remember any of his lines or braking points . he started the weekend 6 seconds off his normal lap times  but improved with each race . its a long road to full recovery but he is getting there .
didn't see the last race malc , did morton beat thwaites or did gary brake down ?

Hi Simon, no I wouldn't judge Rob at all, I know about his accident and his capabilities and was surprised to see him riding, was Stuart at IHRO meeting?
Morton hadn't been close to him in previous race would like to see times, he seemed to drop back on last lap, backmarkers maybe and was sitting up through chicane and over the line, Morton was definitely on it though, good race.
If I'd known you were going could have met for coffee, did you see John Davies 500/4?

hi malc ,  im sorry i worded that wrong , i know full well you would not judge rob i was just trying to explain to others why his results were not as good as usual .
stuart was there helping his dad , hes off to the manx on tuesday so didnt want to tempt fate by racing !
didn't see john Davies or the bike unfortunately
yes thats the reason i asked about gary , he was much faster in the races i watched , he did pull out of the wheatcroft trophy race with engine problems while in third which was impressive against the much more modern post classic bikes , i wondered if this had happened again [ taking nothing from morton who obviously rode a great race ]
is it just me malc or are the classic club classes even more bewildering than normal this year ? i had a quick count up and there where 32 different classes crammed into those races , to be honest apart from the bloke who crossed the line first in each race i have no idea who won what .
sorry i didnt get in touch with you before the weekend but it was a last minute thing , i was only there to pick up some honda rs 250 parts . only two more engines to finnish for the manx before they are on the boat tuesday morning !

Ok Simon no problem, unortunately classes are always bewildering to me now but it is the only way to get good grids, I went to Darley on Saturday the Historic Racing Club meeting another mixture but good fun.
John Davies 500/4 was about 8th in first race went straight on at Redgate, not sure why, 2nd race going well again, out of esses Chris Firmin went down on his own oil followed by 1 other and Richard Wilson on the 500/4, I witnessed both, sorry John I'll stop spectating at your next outing.

Hi Guys, The 500/4 Honda ridden by Richard Wilson was a daviesmotorsport bike but was put together by Nigel
of NRP exhausts and Dave from D&M engineering and owned by Tony and is a credit to them. I think Richard was having problems stopping it with the drum brake they have in it but was impressed with the bike.
Johns bike is sitting in the w/shop with the open pipes on waiting to go to the Manx next week-end for Chris
Maghan to race. Great W/end racing at Donnington!!

Thanks for the info Peter, there was another similar looking bike I saw in the race but didn't get chance to see in the paddock no. 199, don't have a program to give the riders name, any ideas?
