Time for Reassembly, Help
« on: August 24, 2012, 10:40:41 AM »

Beginning to button my top end back together. I had the head rebuilt and I am reassembling the valve train.

Do I need to use assembly lube on the rocker shafts, cam, etc or can I generously lube them up with oil? I am reusing all the valve train pieces and stock cam on a 30,000 mile engine. All of them are within spec and in great condition.

Well I have used assembly lube on mine...as I figured - if I don't get any or much oil circulation going for a bit - the ass. lube hangs around longer..whereas your "large quantity" of oil splatteerd around is gonna dissipate real fast. I did a bit of both. Assembly lube on cam lobes etc and splattered oil around the top as well.

With the head torqued to the high-end of spec ........I let the motor sit for a day and retorque before assembling the rest of the cam tower parts. On final assembly I use a drop of blue Lock-Tite on those cam-tower cap-bolt threads

Excellent advice since it cannot be done once it is in the frame.
