Decal/Sticker Needed Sandcast K0
« on: August 23, 2012, 05:32:59 AM »
I am looking for the decal below for my sandcast K0 which is in the 5000 range.  Instead of a Vin plate it has this decal.  I have already checked Yamiya, Reproduction Decals who did not answer two emails from me, CBdecales, and KZ900.  Anyone have any places I missed or any ideas where I could get one made.   It was printed on what I would call thin aluminum but not as thick as a Vin plate.

You can get a decent label from Reproduction Decals:
http://www.reproductiondecals.com/default_frameset.html?content.html~main
They don't list them on the website, can't list Honda parts for some reason, so you'll have to call them.  I say decent because they are thinner and not aluminum but from 2 feet away you can't tell the difference.

Thanks Mark.  How long ago have you used them?  I have sent them two emails this week with no response.

Yamiya is a Japanese language website. Try posting the photo of the sticker with a question mark and see what happens.

Good Advice, Frank.........If you get  new decal, you could mount it on a thin piece of aluminum (heavy foil).....then trim the edges and seal it with clear-coat and mount to the frame for the original effect.

I recently helped out a buddy with his Yamaha RD350 rebuild. This bike has a flimsy decal that we knew would not come off easily. I photographed the decal with good lighting as square on as I could before we tried to remove it. Of course, the removal was not successful so off to the powder coater it went.

I then opened the file in PhotoShop, straitened the curvature, and cleaned it up a bit before taking the file to the local sign shop. I tried not to over work the file to keep the authenticity of an aged sticker. I had them print the decal at 100% magnification (how I supplied it to them) on good outdoor vinyl stock.

Examples:

retouched file sent to printer:

Hope this helps for those one off situations.

Thanks everyone for the ideas and suggestions.  I did call Reproduction Decals today and only got their voice mail and so far they have not returned my call or emails.  So I’m not sure what is up there maybe they are on vacation?

@ Lucky- Yamiya definitely has an English web site.

@ 754 from what I understand from reading the sandcast only forum I believe all the early sand cast up to the 5000 range had this decal.  In the post I read I don’t think anyone had verified this sticker for the 6000-7000 range so who knows when the vin tag started.

@ sixthwisconsin – that decal came out great.  I wish I was better at photo shop.  Heck I wish I had photo shop I use gimp.  Do you remember what the sign shop charged you?

I believe I paid the minimum charge around $30 and got around 12 stickers. I told them to put as many on the page as would fit.

I do have Photoshop. Give me the exact dimensions between the border marks on each end and I can get you something you can either use to make your own decal or take to a printer.

Hey man thanks that is awesome!  I just used your right hand switch thread to rebuild my controls.  The decal measures 86mmX26mm.

That's 86mm between the end border lines, right?

That's actually to the edge of the decal.  The black border is 1mm offset for the edge.  Let me know if that does not make sense.  Thanks!

I think we had a failure to communicate.  LOL.  Sorry about that.  83mmx22mm.  That is inside black line to inside black line.  I think we are on the same page but if not I will measure all day.  Really appreciate the help!

Yes it was pretty cool and there is a thread here about it with photos - its been a few years since. I bought the clear plastic indicator lenses...still have them on my K2.

Great place to go!

So, here's the final product, and I'm adding it here in case others might want to use it, too. This jpeg was generated at 300dpi and would probably work for making an inkjet decal you could apply to whatever you have. Specify a printing size of 87 X 25.3mm to get the right size after printing.

In addition, I'm sending you (via e-mail) a PSD file, which is a vector file you can take to the printers and have pro done, if you choose.

I recommend you print this out on paper and compare it with the original. That way if it doesn't fit quite right, we can do some tweaking and dial it in for you.

Of course, whatever you do you'll have to post the results!  ;)
