Mistery CB750 carbs
« on: August 22, 2012, 01:44:08 PM »
Some years ago I bought from a german ebay seller a set of carbs that were listed as "K2". I have a K1, but I just wanted the rack to have an spare, in the grounds that I could always use the right jets if need arise.

They have been stored during all this time, and I thought that I probably should just have to let them go. So I opened the bowls -had to use the rubber mallet, didn't opened them when I got them- and, under a varnish layer, I found 120 and 40 jets. I didn't take any picture of my carbs when I rebuilt them, but if memory serves me, that's the right configuration for the K1, right?

Are the carb bodies marked 7A?

I had a set of bowls that looked exactly like that. Here's what I did with 'em.

You mean that just with soaking in vinegar and letting sit overnight you get that result?

Do not soak carbs in vinegar, it will eat your aluminum.  You have been warned.  Well, if you don't use too much of vinegar, I guess it's alright.

Pine-sol or simple green mix with water, soak over night. Blow out with compressed air. Nice and clean with fresh smell

Go to a car paint shop and get 5 ltr of "Gunwash" its the nearest now available to Celulose Thinners. MUST BE USED IMMERSING THE BITS IN A SEALED CAN OR JAR othervise all the "Goodness" evaporates, plus no smoking and not in the oven as it goes bang quite easily!!
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

the bodies are a zinc alloy, the bowls and top cap are aluminium, the zinc casts easier for those intricate passages in the body,70s tech stuff.

Vinegar is approx 5% acetic acid, pure acetic acid is transported in aluminium tanks.
I only used it to clean the bowls. I had the rest of the carbs soda blasted.

Eric I saw that at an auto store. You recommend? I want to learn the 750 carbs and have a set sitting here doing nothing. If I mess up not that big of a deal.

The carb cleaner nowadays is not as 'hot' as the stuff they used to make Nick but it has always worked well for me. After a good soaking and cleaning it can be rinsed out with water and then all the passages blown out well with compressed air. Follow up with some areosol carb cleaner to make sure passages are clear, little more air blow and be done.
