$400 dollar CB750.

Leakes oil on head by exhaust entry
Leakes oil by lowet end gasket (one the goes horizontal across
Leaks oil somewhere near neutral wires.

Is it better to:

Rebuild? Any specialized tools needed? Cost?
Get a used one? Is that a gamble also?
Part out?

I always appreciate the opinions of those on the forum.

Is this the bike you own? Or you're trying to get? How good or bad does it look?

This is your bike in as the avatar correct? Bike runs currently correct? If you only have 400 invested and like the way she drives minus the oil seepage rebuild/ fix the head gasket...

It's a gamble buying another engine if you do not know the history or if it evens runs.

Sounds like maybe the bike may irrate you more then a love hate relationship. if you are looking to spend money and like the CB's maybe spend some money and buy a different. All upto you

show me an old one that doesnt leak if it hasnt already been apart (really no guarantee either).  Pretty sure it would be rare if it didnt leak

I like the looks of the rat. I have some experience rebuilding carbs, some cycle maitenence. What would be the estimated cost and time for gasket fixes. (the head gasket worries me a little ita the one near the bottom thats more frightrning.

gasket kit-  maybe 60 or 70 for a good one.  make sure to get the rubber "nickles" and GLUE THEM IN with threebond or they leak oil (how would i know this  :D)  Time?  Time is free...

is it the cylinder base gasket that leaks?  if so, its not too hard to pull the cylinders off at that point.  Great time to lightly hone the bores and re ring too.

Talk to cycle x and tell them what youre doing.  he put together a gasket kit for me sans base gasket but with all the seals that I would need for the head gasket on up.  good price too if i remember
