So I ended up cutting off the seat mount we rigged up. Just wasn't going to work. I am going to come up with a cleaner, less visible mounting system for the seat. And best of all IT WILL WORK!

Started thinking about getting the wheels painted and I came up with a few questions: I need the following done to the wheels

-New tires
-New paint
-New sealed bearings from All Ballz

Is there any particular order that I should do those things? I was thinking I should get the tires on first so I don't ding up the new paint. Then do paint and bearings? Any advise would be appreciated!

So here is my dual exhaust that I got off ebay a while back:




I knew I wanted dual exhaust when I got the idea of the build, but I could never find any for the 78 750F. Then I saw these on ebay for cheap, and snatched them up. I was trying to mount them up to the engine in the frame this afternoon thinking I could weld on some mounts for them and realized that these pipes might not even be made for this bike... Come to think of it, I have NEVER once seen dual exhaust on a 77 or 78 750f!

Did I get scammed?

Any body want to try to to identify them? Seller said they were Mac



They have "I" stamped into two of the header pipes, and a "0" in the other two. No special markings on the end pipes as far as I could tell. One side does have a bracket of some type on the bottom of it however:



I guess I'll go try to figure out my seat mounting mess...  :P

Anybody have ANY idea on the exhaust?? My flanges just slip right off the end of them where they should catch when I have the little spacers in too. I'm guessing this pipe set up isn't even made for my bike.. anybody?

well I'm gonna venture a guess and say the I pipe stands for inner pipe and O stands for outer pipe. They prob did that instead of numbers or something

assemble the pipes and try to finagle them in place. If they line up with the ports and follow some rough outline of the frame they will prob work

I used 80 dohc pipes on my 72 motor(76 bike) along with later style clamps and it worked just fine. Just some work to make it clear the kickstand and mount it up

Looking good so far! Love the choice of seat and those dual pipes are pretty cool. 4 into 2 's sound pretty good on these bikes. Keep on wrenching man. Subbed......

Did you weld a mounting tab for your pipes onto the frame? I think that's what I'm gonna end up doing.

Mine came from the guy with like 1/8" thick hangers that were about 5 inches long. I cut them in half, drilled another hole and attached it to where the passenger pegs go. I just worked some little bends to position the exhaust even

my response contains this disclaimer.  It is all opinion but you asked for opinions i think.  750's are too big for cafe racer conversion and they are too heavy and unwieldy for off road work.  That said its your bike do what feels good.

I agree that they are impractical for off-road use! I just think it'll look cool, so I'm doing it :P. Any constructive opinions and criticism is welcome. The only components that I'll be adding/ changing on the bike to make it look off-roady is dual sport tires, lifted rear end, and uhh... is that it?

Just got home, found a package containing wheel bearings and a kick arse tail-light. Held it up to the seat and it looks sweet! It's a slim cat-eye taillight for Dime City Cycles. All the parts look good except the back bearings kit... On the packaging it has a list of all of the bikes fit. I don't see my bike listed there  >:( So, I'll be returning that, and hopefully also a set 2 sets of brake pads that don't fit my F.

Apetersonboy ignore me I own three bikes now and that includes the Bastard of the SOHC bunch a 650C so what do I know.  I will not do it but if my 350F needed alot of work I think it would make a great CAFE bike.

Hey. Currently in the process of pulling the engine back out of the frame so I can take it to the shop to attempt to finish seat mounts. I HATE pulling the engine. Plus I'm by myself... blegh. Next post will probably be reporting thrown out back, or a tempter tantrum resulting in a destroyed engine. Wish me luck

Recently identified the exhaust. I was on ebay and saw a set exactly like mine titled Mac Cb 750 K exhaust. So... Maybe that will make it easier to find someone who's done K exhaust on an F!

If it's for a SOHC K bike then it should fit your engine, but you will need to fab up rear mounting brackets as the F bike was always a 4-1 exhaust and there are some differences in the frame and swing arm between K and F bikes.

don't worry - mistakes are always made when tacking a build - just remember to TAKE IT SLOW.  every time you get rushed, mistakes get made (at least that's how it works for me! haha ;D ).

and remember the old carpenter's saying:  "measure twice, cut once".

i like the bike you posted that was your inspiration.  excited to see how yours ends up!

Hey man, I've got my own F project as well. Really enjoying watching this come together! If you haven't heard about dotheton. Check out their forums. They have a lot of inspiration as well! Between these two forums you're sure to have as much info as you will ever need with your build.

I put a bearing kit into the front wheel without any major trouble. Once I got to the rear wheel though, I had problems. I am missing part 42620-392-000. Honda doesn't make this part any more and I am having trouble find anyone selling one  :( . Do you think I'll just have to buy a used wheel and use it as parts or what? If anyone knows where to get one, hit me up please.

These guys say they have them but they also list it as discontinued. I'm assuming they mean discontinued by Honda because they let me add it to their shopping cart. http://www.cycle-parts.com/Products/1087657-42620-392-000.aspx

I'm sure everthing will work out for you but I really wish new owners would clean carbs and hear motors run before they start throwing $100's at making them look nice.

Believe it or not, I am indeed still alive. I haven't posted or even been on this site in forever! I saw a 1977 cb 550f last night in Salina and it inspired me to get y ass back into gear on mine. I've been slacking majorly and have no excuse for it. Please forgive me sohc Honda gods :-[

I am without a computer at least until the end of June, so I need to figure out how to post photos from my iPod touch to show you my paint progress. I did a trial run on one of my calipers and it turned out great! It's a hot rod red color. Also, frame and swing arm are off being painted as we speak.

Here are some photos of my triple clamps I painted up a couple nights ago.


That last photo shows a problem that I have. I looked at a diagram and I believe that last thing on the stem is a bearing race. If so, then I need to take it off, right? Because I am trying to put in an all balls kit.

I have looked through the website but I can't seem to find the answer I need. I just don't want to damage the thing if I'm not supposed to take it off! Thanks.

Yes, you need to remove that to install the tapered bearing kit whcih will come with a new race with a flat flace for the roller bearings rather than the concave face for the original ball bearins.
