That is troubling. My engine number is mounted the same location as yours and the only ones I've seen that from are mine and yours. I've been told I have a 78 k but I'm not 100%. Are there any other engine identifiers?

Well I know that the F bikes engines were black, so I'm pretty much 100% mines an F engine. I don't think some one painted it. Are you trying to figure out what engine yours is or what?

F2 engine numbers commenced 2600004 so looks like yours is a 78. Maybe its an F3??
My F2 is 2615831 and plated 5/78.

Yes I'm trying to find the exact model because I guess my numbers overlap. Mine was not painted black and the number on the head is 392 and this is what the pistons look like

I'm sorry Jonny but I'm pretty unfamiliar with differentiating between models of these bikes other than the big obvious things like if it has comstars wheels or not. Sorry I can't help you more.

I had a look at CMSNL and it confirms your engine as 78 F2, US export engine number 3100002 >

Carbs should be PD41B.

However, that piston is F1, has the F1 392 model code on it. F2 were 410.  The F1 has 392 cast in the head. So, perhaps yours has had a top end swap by a PO?

I think it's all original. The motor came by itself off eBay. I think Honda used 1976 F and then with an over flow of the F motor they Began to use them for the 1978 K. If anyone can confirm this that would reassure me. I know it's an F head but there's nothing out there that'll give me the exact differences.

IT LIVES!!! Except for cutting out at idle when you open the throttle wide open, it runs like a champ! My neighbor came over and he had it running within a minute of just playing with the choke and air idle.




To-Do List
-See if rear master cylinder is shot or not, if so, replace with GL 1100 MC
-Banjo bolts for all three calipers with washers
-Bleed brakes
-Tape up wires, and tidy up the battery box
-Buy a battery
-Wash out tank with gas
-Acquire inspection approval from sheriff (I have no title).
-Plate, Insure
-Ride like a raped ape

What kind of exhaust do you have on it. I have the same year bike and am running a open Kerker on it. Your's look like a Kerker as well but can't really tell from the pictures.

You should see something stamped on the collector part of the exhaust. "The part number for the complete system for both models (69 through 78 K models and the 75 through 78 F models.) is 128-30748 The head pipe should have the number 5465 stamped on it." -Taken from another post on this site. Should be the same for your exhaust.

Today was a good day. Made a license plate mount, , tiddyed up my wiring, mounted my horn, modified inner fender to mount with my frame mod.

Also I order a gsxr rear master cylinder, slingshot brake hoses, banjo bolts and crush washers, and fuel petcock.

Also bought some perforated steel and other supplies for some side covers that are sometime soon to come...

Tomorrow I will be working on my gas tank paint and design. Keeping it a secret so it will e a surprise when it's done. Think you guys will dig it. Bike as it sits now.

I was running it tonight and a couple things happened that I'm curious about.

After the engine has been running, whether it be for 10 seconds or a couple minutes, when it turns off, I can hear a squirting noise coming from the head of the engine. Is this residual oil pressure squirting oil into the head, or is the oil flowing out of the head back down?

And also, when it was running, I would engage the choke a bit, maybe half a pull or so, it would back fire sending a blue flame out the exhaust. Open header I should say. Is this just because when it's on choke it is putting more fuel into the engine and it's just not getting burnt?

Also, there was something dripping from where the header meets up with the muffler. I thought it was oil leaking from the lines dripping down onto the exhaust, but turns out it was liquid coming from INSIDE the exhaust! I smelled it and there isn't any pungentness to it. Also, when I took the muffler off so it was just the open header, smoke came out when the engine was off. It didn't smell like anything was burning. Is this just condensation?
