Make the braided brake line yourself, like RC did back then..probably Earls Supply stuff and -4..
Good idea . I'll look into doing that 8) .

The rear mudguard arrived today, and I'm really excited about how it is going to end up looking . I've had a re think about painting it rather than getting it chrome plated . A chrome plated rear mudguard was the look I was after initially and I'm going to stick to that , and blow the cost . I think these pics really show the potential  :) :)

Did you see the thread in high perf on the onboard cb900 starter or hayabusa starter? no final test yet but i've got a busa starter on mine, the gears aren't a perfect mesh but I read that it's been done before. I also cut the heavy dyno off the starter clutch drive and lightened what was left on a lathe.

Yes I've seen that thread Don 8). If I was building a road bike that's probably the route I'd be taking .However my bike is going to be a fairly close copy of the first RC P/S bike( which I'm having to assume was started by remote starter) as all the pics of that bike that I've seen are of the right side, and which all clearly show that the kickstart had been removed  .I've done a lot of research and  pics of early sohc P/S bikes taken from the generator side seem non existent, presumably because they looked better from the exhaust side.
I cut the mudguard down and I think I've got the correct look , now I have to work out how to mount it .

Mine's a cackle fest, nostalgia deal but I didn't want to need help to start it.

Well I finally managed to get the rear fender mounted, and mount a suitably period looking repro rear light unit on to it . I'm using a Nos glassfibre front fender mounted on to a stock brace up front . Here are a couple of pics of where we are up to .

Thanks Bill  ;). It's a question of two steps forward and one step back at the moment I'm afraid . With every thing on the frame ie fuel tank , crank cases etc it can look fairly complete , but having to make sure everything fits good and comes off and on easily before I get into final  painting/plating stuff means that some pics make it look like I'm going backwards sometimes  ::)

I know that it's been a while since my last update , well folks I'm still soldiering on with this build,I'm just chipping away at it and am quietly confident that we'll be up and running next spring  ::). I'm pretty close to painting the frame/swing arm and wheelie bars and have got a good guy lined up to do the tank/sidepanels and fenders etc . The design brief was to build it as I would have built it back in the early seventies ,which includes the choice of colour scheme , so lets just say it won't be dull  ;D ;D. Heres a few pics of where we are ,and of some of the bits that'll be going onto/into this bike .

Thanks Bill  ;). Yes it's going to look really "old skool" when it's done . The problem with the mag is that the magneto cover got damaged in transit , so I'm currently looking up tractor parts for a replacement .Also I'm going to have to get my buddy (who is a retired tool maker) to make up a stub shaft to drive it off the end of the crank , cos it didn't come with one  :(. I'm also looking to mount the ally fuel tank within the dummy fuel tank rather than bolting it onto the frame .I've just got a couple of brackets to weld onto the swing arm for a chain guard and then I'll be ready to paint . I'm going to be sorting out the parts for the mag asap, but I'm really going to focus on finishing the rolling chassis soon and will sort out the mag proper when I have the motor set up in its stand during the motor build .

Hi johno . Yes things are coming together now , it's time for the big push  ;D.I must admit the colour scheme of your bike has been an inspiration (no it aint gonna be yellow mate ;)) . Like a lot of guys on here of a certain age ;D I was into the psychedelic  ;) back in the day when I had hair  ;D. So with it being a nostalgia trip colourfull it will have to be ;D ;D

Hi Bill . I've got some good photos of the drive for an ARD sohc Honda setup in a couple reprinted   magazine articles from back in the day  .Although my mate is now retired , he has a fully fitted out machine shop in his back garden and still makes stuff for a couple of well known companies who specialise in Tritons etc , so I'm pretty sure he'll be able to make one at least as good as the original . When he gets round to doing it is another question  ::) ::).

I've just been back through this build , and looking at where I started with this build and where we are now :o . I've tacked on the chaingaurd mounts and torque arm mounts to the swingarm . I've not been able to fit  the ally fuel tank into the dummy tank because of it's shape/size , also tacked a couple of mounts for the fuel tank to the frame . I'll be stripping the bike today (Sunday) for final welding, and then sanding everything down in preparation for painting. Colour wise , I've been researching what was "in" in the early seventies , I'm lucky I married an accountant who really wanted to be a designer and have a daughter who's in university studying to be an architect, so I'm getting all the advice I need on what colour scheme/design to use  ;D ;D , because I'm pretty useless at all that colour scheme stuff  ::).And as my old man used to say I need to  "keep going with my head down " .  :) :) to get this finished .

Thanks for the words of encouragement Bill  ;). Glad to hear that you like the new avatar , I keep rigging up that mag onto the crankcases cos it looks so cool  8) . I got the bike stripped down on Sunday , and everything is set up for finishing off the remaining lugs etc which need final welding . I was going to do some tonight (Monday) but I can't be bothered,as it's been a long hot day today at work  ::) , It'll have to be done sometime during the week , as I'm on a course all day Saturday :( , and we've got stuff planned for the rest of the weekend 8) .

yes it feels good to play with the old speed parts ,you dream about this stuff and when you finally have it in your hands it is sometimes hard to think you actually own it as we both live so far away from the areas this stuff comes from.it has taken me 3 years to collect the things I have now to find time to put it all together!bill

Well I got the frame and various bits painted . I wanted to do the bike in true seventies colours , but having built bikes in the past with green frames , blue frames and a Tricati with a gold frame I've decided to do this bike with a red frame , much to the disgust of my wife and daughter, who both said that red wasn't a true seventies colour , it was all browns and oranges, greens and creams back then apparently ::) . Anyway red it is , although the pics don't show the true colour which is very similar to Ferrari scarlet . We're off for a couple of weeks in the sun so the frame has been placed in the sun room along with the daughters discarded toys and stuff untill we get back, cos it'somewhere where the paint can harden without any disturbance. When we get back I'm going to give myself a month to get it all back together ,and the tank and sidepanels etc painted in  more authentic seventies colours and design, which should take it till the end of August.

I'm pretty sure that red was invented before the seventies Bill  ;D ;D. Just finished looking at TreyAllens last post  ,and his bike is looking good 8) , the colour scheme of the seventies bike in the pics isn't a million miles away from what I'm planning on doing colour wise. Also that photo also brings back memories of when I had hair  ::). I've still got a bit of time before we head of to the airport , so a little more time on the bike is on the cards I reckon  ;) ;). Regards Greg "H"
