I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Recieved a couple of tasty pieces for my project today .
A surface ground and drilled front disc off Godffery , and a super cool pair of headlamp brackets off Carpy .
Also a copy of Carpy's book sohc Hop up Manual which I havn't been able to put down all day .
I'm still patiently waiting to pick up the wheels from my wheel builder ,and I still havn't got the frame back off my mate , but meanwhile I've been  keeping myself busy sorting out and preparing fasteners etc for nickel plating and scouring ebay for a couple of chassis parts that I'm still short of .

No , not tomorrow . We're house hunting at the moment , I really need to get back to having a decent sized workshop . I've got the H2 at my mothers , the Busa at my mate Marks and the project Honda in the small workshop at the back of where we are living at the moment .
I'm planning on going spectating ta the Kirkbride , Straightliners meeting on 21st/22nd April . I'm also planning on going to the Stafford show on the following weekend. Racing wise I'm not sure what we're doing this year , the Busa just needs an oil and filter change and some fuel throwing into the tank and it'll be ready for action . The problem for me this year is that Trev ( Straightliners ) and his team have set up a Mile championship ,( which is brilliant) , but most of the meetings are mid week at Elvington , and unfortunatly for me we're too busy at work for me to take time off mid week at the moment :(.

I'm interested in Carpy's book mate, is it just reprints of period magazine articles like the ones in your pics, or is he offering some new "Carpy" information? I also wonder if he's violated any copyright laws in the US for reprinting articles without the owners permission? I might have to buy a copy before they lock him up! ;D

Hi Terry . Sorry for the late response to your question , I'm only usually on the lap top at weekends . Yes it's re prints of some of the best "hop up" articles from the past . You know what , the really annoying part is, I had most of them back in the day , I used to get the US mags back then , but when I got married I put them all into a tea chest and took them down to the local tip , after all I'd moved on  bike wise , and to me back then, the sohc Honda was "yesterdays news ". How things change eh ! ::) ::)

Finally got hold of the wheels today and they are awesome . Trouble is they're going to have to be wrapped in bubble wrap and boxed up, along with some of the other tasty bits for the bike while we move house . We move in a couple of weeks so the project bike will have to be put on hold for the time being . I'm exited about the move as we'll be moving to a larger house in a better part of town , and I'll finally be able to get my bikes and equiptment all under one roof at long last .However, there will be a couple of things that I can be getting done whilst we are busy moving , like the seat for instance . I've managed to pick up a repro base and cover , and I've found someone local (who comes highly recomended) to do the seat the way I want it . Also I'll be at the Stafford show next weekend, and I'll looking out for a set of badges for the side panels and some fasteners I need to help me finish the rolling chassis off . So it's all to play for. Happy days  :) :) :).

Hi Guys .re  my last update well, we've moved house , and I've spent the last few weeks doing  those jobs (which she who must be obeyed ;)) reckons need to be done before I start spending my spare time (and cash ::))on my project bike , which incidentally I've now decided to christen with the name of UNFINISHED BUSINESS . We're on holiday at the moment , and for the first time in years we decided, rather than spend our annual summer break sunning ourselves on some beach on the Mediterranean , we'd devote a week to doing jobs on the house , and then I'd be spending the second week setting up my workshop whilst the wife and daughter spent the week shopping , and just generally giving the bank balance a good work out . We've just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary , so I must be doing something right  ;D ;D ;D.
I've included a few random pics . I promise to post some more up to date pics once I get this build up and running properly  ;).

Well, I'm back on the case . The rolling chassis is coming along nicely now. It's taken a lot of work to convert the original F1 frame into a convincing copy of a K . There's still a bit of work to do in the seat rail area of the frame in order to provide adequate clearance for the rear tyre and still provide a suitable mounting point for a rear fender.
I'll be getting the seat rails and the front end mocked up this week so we can get stuck into making up a set of wheelie bars for the bike.
A couple of pics of where we are at with the rolling chassis.

The frame has been completely de-lugged Frank . Most of the work has gone into doing things like making up new mounts for the K oil tank and K side covers etc , which I'm sure you know are completely different on the F frame. One area which took a little bit of sorting out was converting the rear brake pedal spindle from an F into a K setup. The top frame rail mods didn't take too much sorting out, once we'd decided to go with straight tubes rather than trying to get nicely bent up tubes to fit , because no matter how we did it we couldn't get the fuel tank to fit using the stock front mounts .One of the rear shock mounts needed repairing and all the frame was checked over and reinforced wherever necessary . I'm trying to keep the bike looking right for the era but certain things (such as wheelie bars length) will be built with more of an eye on safety rather than on absolute authenticity .

Spent a couple of hours today building up the forks for the bike . The forks have been shortened by 2ins internally by the use of ally spacers over the damper rods and I've shortened the stock springs to suit and then put the appropriate amount of Castrol 10s weight mineral fork oil into each fork leg . I'm currently on the lookout for a suitable front tyre , a front slick would look right , but I fancy a ribbed front tyre ,which should help with directional stability , although finding a 18ins one which has a suitable speed rating may provide a bit of a challenge. I'll have the head bearings fitted to the frame this week ,and when I've got a suitable front tyre we should be able to get the front forks fitted and get the ride height spot on .We then need to fabricate the wheelie bars , front fork brace and an small ally fuel tank , which reminds me , I need to source a suitable fuel tap and some wheels for the wheelie bars ::)

What kind of fork brace? I can sketch up a very easy to build drag race type..  Uses about 10 bux of material.

Pardon the crude quick drawing .. The sides are 1/4 aluminum  plate the bars are 3/4 or 7/8 aluminum. Ends are tapped, weight turned off the middle, that is optional .
Does that make sense so far.?

Sorry for the late response . I'm reading this at 6.30 am just before I set off to work .
The diagram is spot on . We have plenty aircraft spec ally in various thickness's and diameters  , so it shouldn't be a problem manufacturing one  . I had planned on using something along these lines , or maybe a piece of quarter ally bent into a brace , as was common practice back in the day . I have a glassfibre front fender which I intend modifying to suit as well.

Very easy to hang a fender under the 2 bars, if you position them right. . I can get. A pic of my old brace on K7 legs..in about. 8 hrs..

Excuse the condition of the parts, been having a long rest.

If you pay attention to your layout , you should end up with the crossbars, in perfect location to hand a fender under. Working with what I had around after getting soaked, I did it differently. When I built this I had a small SouthBend lathe, sander. Drill press..no milling involved.
The area where it bolts against the fork may need a bit ground off in the middle. You can vary the look of this easily, I would start off with cardboard templates...

Thanks for the pics Frank . I like the look of your setup , I'm going to do my uprights a bit shorter than yours and I'll be looking to mount the fender directly to the cross bars . My wife is used to me pinching the cereal boxes out of the kitchen, cos that's what I usually make my templates out of . ::)
