Hi from Baltimore
« on: August 26, 2012, 06:59:30 AM »
Hello from another noob.  Well, new to the forum anyway. I've been riding for a long time, everything from an XL250R to a Kawasaki Concours to a V-Strom. I'm an MSF instructor and now have several CB350 twins, street and WERA race and a C70 pit bike.

I had a '75 Jade Green 550 I bought from a friend in '79. It was my first 4-stroke street bike. Unfortunately it met an untimely demise at the hands of a Buick LaSabre in 1985. I've always wanted another but never got around to it until last week. I saw a CL post for a "ran when parked" bike for a unbelievably low price that the guy had just posted. I emailed him immediately and told him I'd take it. I picked it up the next day.

Turns out the guy had it gone over at a local shop to get it road worthy then occasionally rode it to work for a couple years. He said one of the carbs started leaking one day and he parked and left it. That was 4 years ago.

It's not quite as good as the picture makes it look but it's solid, turns over fine, the tank's rust fee and it even has a Lockhart oil cooler. I'm guessing that with  a good carb cleaning, fresh gas and oil and a new battery it'll start right up.  The worst thing is that the air box is gone. The PO put pods on it.

Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, restore or modify, but I'm really looking forward to getting it back on the road to relive a particularly pleasant part of my youth.

That bike looks way to nice to modify. I say restore.
Ride for fun.
