Chewy, the tape you got is perfect.  Remember to lay on lightly and once in the correct location press the seams of the tape firmly.  You don't want paint getting under the tape.  Also after you clean, sand, clean, tape and then clean again, be sure to use a tacky cloth t pick up any lint or dust that is left behind.  A good paintjob is predicated on cleanliness.

The flake that I used is a House of Kolors (HOK) blue F22-II royal blue.

Hey guys -

It was actually much easier than I thought.   Basically, it is just primer followed by cheap black base coat.  Then it is followed by clear with the flake mixed in it.  It's House of Kolor and it comes in a jar.  It's dry and you just mix it straight into the clear.  (I have 2 spray guns -so I used an older one with a larger tip so the flake goes through it easier.)    You just kinda spray that on lightly until you get the look that you want.   Then, you just put on regular clear.

It really looks plugged in out in the sun.    Seems weird to spray it on top of black but it really worked great.

I'll check the color when I get home today but I'm pretty sure it's Apricot - http://www.tcpglobal.com/hokpaint/ItemDetail.aspx?ItemNo=HOK+F19-6Z

The good thing about flakes like those are - you don't have to use House of Kolor base coats or clear.  You can use the generic stuff you can get at the paint shop - most of it is made by PPG or the usual suspects.

Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

It was the same process for me.  One difference is that I just used a black epoxy primer so I did not need a coat of paint to.

How many coats of flake/clear did you use?  I was able to get the look I wanted with three coats of the flake/clear mixture. Now I have a bunch of coats of clear over that and it looks deep and wet.

The cost of supplies is high.  I've got over $300 in supplies for this.  So far it is well worth it.  I am loving the results so far.

Also I agree with the comment about it coming alive in the sun light.  It is awesome.

Update:

Done.  Wet sanded with 2000, buffed with fine line and then rebuffed with McGuires swirl remover.

Results can be seen:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/78638812@N02/

Next is the reassembly and then I can finally ride it.

Now the fun begins.    Looks great.   Like the off-center racing stripes as well.

What a head turner. I dig the stripes too,  off center is always more appealing to me.

It was the nicest looking bike that was broken down on the side of the road yesterday. :)       It sure looked sweet coming home in the back of my truck.

Hondas are cool no matter what even in the back of a truck!  You'll have her up and going in no time.
