This is why I fell in love with motorcycles at the age of 14 in 1971 and still love them at age 55 in 2012

. It just never gets old no matter how many times I've watched it. The best motorcycle movie ever

I absolutely love it. I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Smith and Mr. Brown at Mid-O a couple years ago. It was truly an overwhelming experience.

Yes, love it. On Any Sunday II might be one of the worst flicks ever, though. I really want oone of those Husky dirt bikes like McQueen and Malcom Smith were riding.

My first bike was a 71 Yamaha 350 R5B. I was a stupid kid and decided I could ride it in the dirt and jump it like they are in the film. I absolutely destroyed that bike but still have some marks to remember it by.

Your a lucky guy BJ, meeting Malcom Smith. After seeing him in the movie I thought there wasn't anything he couldn't do on a motorcycle. I've always heard he is a super nice guy, is that true? I think he still does some off road riding even though he's in his 70's now.

Chuck, McQueen was the coolest and a very good rider also. I liked the Great Escape too!!

Jeff, I didn't waste my money on OASII. There's only one the first and the original IMO

I grew up in Riverside and was lucky enough to see OAS when it first came out. I've met Malcom several times at his shop. He was such a regular guy. Bought my first YZ125 their in 79 and several others along the way in the 80's. Also got my RZ350 from him in the mid 80's.

Hey thanks for posting Hall. I really enjoyed that...but a bit embarrassed to say I had never heard of On Any Sunday. Maybe because I was riding bikes and chasing girls back in 1971 in high school. Or is that chasing bikes and riding girls...maybe both. So now I have to look up that movie and see if it is available. Thanks again...

Johnie you must of been really busy in the early 70's to have never heard of OAS. It really boosted the motorcycle craze here in the US. You can watch it in it's entirety on You Tube or I think you can still get it on vhs. Its one of those good feel movies. Ive seen it more times than I could count and could sit here and tell you all about, but I won't. Watch it and enjoy it.

I checked it out. Back then my girl worked at the theater and she is now my wife. She said they did not get any documentary movies in this area back then. Guess that answers my question as to why I never saw it. I will find it. Thanks for posting...

your right dhall it never gets old,i havent seen it for years but ive watched it three or four times,hows the lack of protective gear back then?im 53,i loved dirt bikes,i had a yammy73 dt400 and then a 78 it400 which was a bad handler but indestructible,my mid 80s it250 was very forgiving handling wise,that sand trap im in is at the hatta kulkyne national park where your not meant to ride,we found this giant sand bowl acres big and let loose,it didnt have a foot print on it.

Hey Dave, like those old pics. Is that a Chevelle in the background? It's amazing how far the technology has come in 40 years. The bikes, the gear, etc. look almost primitive by today's standards. I wonder how the big name riders of today would fair if they had to race on those machine. IMO I like watching the old stuff much more than I do the current stuff. Takes you back to a better and simpler time, when you rode and raced because you truly loved it not because your being paid millions a year to do it.

Dave- It's very reminiscent of a '70s Chevelle or Cutlass but I knew I didn't know what it was. BTW, Amazon has OAS streaming for 2.99 (US), if you can get that. Your pics are great, I never did anything like that mud pic. -Chuck

yeah we loved dirt bikes,we went everywhere on them all day,man we had all sorts of funny #$%* happen,anyone whos ridden dirt bikes in the bush for miles a day not just round and round tracks has funny tales,im not canning the motocrossers of course.

my son had a peewee 50,he never got into bikes and i never pushed him,hes in hes mid twenties now

i better stop now,and let someone else have a turn,i might scan all the dirt bike photos i have,i had these already scanned,i still have that car and drive it everyday!man if that old thing could talk?i wish i never sold that trailer aswell,we put air shocks on it and somehow it was so easy to back up.

Love the pics! I won't be dirt riding this weekend, but I will watch On Any Sunday again. My son is now 31 and also never had an interest in motorcycles until just recently.

i rode a bike through that train tunnel,its at castlemaine victoria,i was the only one that did,man its 1.5 kays long and curves also pitch black,we had no idea of the timetable or anything!pretty dumb,,that pickup is a 48 chev,i still have a badge of the seat from it,it was gone one day after being there for years.

this is a 12 acre block my mate had,it was surrounded by crown land and forrest,the best riding anywhere!miles of fire trails,its castlemaine,old gold area,heaps of quartz rock.
