836 turbo or 970 n/a?
« on: September 02, 2012, 11:28:16 pm »
I am finally getting an NOS K0 gas tank from a previous deal I did and have decided to go yank a 70' K0 out of the junkyard and build a hotrod to go with my stock resto 70' K0.

What would be the best/ most reliable combination on the street?  Assuming some sort of ported head, aftermarket cam, cycle-x rods, then the details of either 970cc all motor or 836cc turbo setup?  The 970cc setup you have to bore the cases right? Clutch mods on both?  I think 100hp rear wheel shouldn't be hard with these two.

100hp is reasonable if you do the bigger valve top end. HD Crank studs and cylinder studs. MLS gaskets for cylinder base and head. HD Springs and retainers.
970 will require the case holes to be opened up. How much $$$ you got?! This can get seriously expensive. My list is just starters.

You should do a good clutch with that HP.

IF you have a ready to go turbo setup then go for it but.....  The 900/970/1000 stuff is now new tech and readily available plus you don't have to learn turbo and how to set everything up.

I saw some guy on here's setup he did he said he had $1800 in the turbo setup, I might just shelve this idea, looking at the prices, I could just buy a cbr600 or gsxr1000 at the same cost as what I was talking about doing.   If I could get my hands on a gpz750 turbo, it'd be on.  But I shouldn't complain I've got an 83' cx650t that needs some attention...and a title.  I'll think about it for sure.

If you want to see what I have in mine
look for "Its time to build an 836 Turbo"
I have 1500 in just the turbo then another 1000 for a complete rebuild
that included a new carburetor
that doesn't include XXXXXXX about of dollars that's just in the motor

good luck
If you have a turbo kit you want to sell PM me
