Upper Air Cleaner Box / Tubes question.
« on: June 29, 2006, 06:08:18 AM »
Hi,
Here's my question... Where the tubes go into the upper air cleaner box, they are pretty open. In fact, there is about an eighth of an inch open around the paremeter of each tube. Obviously the air can get sucked in that way totally bypassing the whole filter. I would expect that that shouldn't be like that. Is it supposed to be air tight? I'm thinking that the PO put on an air box from a different model.

Yes, those should be air tight.

You're welcome.
It's possible that you may just have the them pushed too far into the air box.  There are two raised ridges that form a groove around the tubes, and the rim of the holes in the air box is supposed to sit inside the groove, forming an air tight seal.  If you have a visible gap between the tubes and air box, then you may just have both seal-forming ridges inside the air box.

This is all just a guess, of course... :)

I've found that in some cases the rubber intake tubes can shrink over the years and not fit properly anymore. If you need them, new ones are still available.
