Thanks guys not 100% sold on the engine yet. Prepping the frame now for paint when its done will put the engine back in and decide if I need to add any other color to the engine just seems like the cast iron is a bit over whelming right now not enough black maybe.

Matt, The engine looks great! I really like the cast Iron color and use it all the time, the cast aluminum  is also a favorite on the jugs for me  over the regular aluminum.
  I like the way that motor looks , when you swing the exhaust over both sides like a cl, there probably won't be much of a view of the jugs anyways. Will you be chroming the new pipes or do you have something different in mind?

Had some time today got the frame,swing arm, centerstand, controls,front brake and master cylinder painted and done.

Thanks rb550four the exhaust for right now I am just going to throw something together. This is a budget build so I wont be chroming it just probally do exhaust wrap on it.  My friend who was going to do the exhaust is too busy right now to make them right now. It really throws a kink in how this bike is going to look but I am going to keep going forward and maybe he will find the time. That is also the reason why I haven't cut any of the brackets or tabs off learned from my last build not to cut anything off until a 100% sure lol.


Still thinking about drilling the front disk not sure yet.

Got the engine back into the frame a little bit nervous usually there is someone around to help me but not today. I took all the cases off cotton balls and tape on the exhaust bolts and laid the engine down on its side and went very slowly laying the frame on it went perfect.

Still waiting for the engine bolt kit and the carb kit to come in. Need to install the steering bearing and will start the prep on the forks and rims and hubs to get it a roller again.

Its funny you said that rb550 I don't have near the amount of time that I use too so I make a list and start on it the minute I get out there no dicking around lol less beer drinking too :(
I am bummed on the exhaust though that body work and tank section was really for the lines of a mid scrambler pipe design not sure how the exhaust will work that I am going to cobble up will tell you though that the muffler tips will be 4 1961 VW Karmann Ghia tips lol..

Got some more parts on yesterday and decided to mock up the exhaust. I didnt have any exhaust for it just some headers used those and found some muffler bent tubing at pepboys and the tips are for a 61 VW Karmann Ghia. I am not a big fan of the look but only in it for 60$ will have to do for now. They arent welded or anything right now will do that at the very last minute hoping my buddy comes through on the mid pipes for me.

Next up forks, hubs and rims to get done probally going black on them but will see. Going to start the electrical its my least favorite thing to do on a bike lol. Carb kits came in will rebuild them this weekend and the engine bolt kit came in will start putting them on today.

Looks great, I think the cast iron color will look good with the right accents on the body work and wheels...

Got the carbs rebuilt, forks and rims painted. I took the engine back out of the frame and painted the jugs black was to much cast iron showing for me. While the engine was out decided to repaint the frame I used a semi gloss black and didn't like it that much so painted it a gloss black not much different but looks better to me.

Next up is the front brakes and rear brake, front fender, rear fender.

Question for those of you that have used pods or stacks it seems to me that the back of the carbs would need some type of support since the stock airbox isn't there to support it any opinions on that.

Thanks Larry I still want to do the high pipes when I set out on this build I wanted to use that tank, tires and high pipes got two of the goals done lol.

Matt, i run pods on most of my bikes and have never had a problems with them slipping downward. Our roads around here would be considered harsh by the rest of the country's standard, and I do ride State trails  every now and again  but carb slippage hasn't been an issue.

Got the front brake on and the rear brake on.

Question on the rear brake it seems to be sticking a bit pushes down the way it should but doesn't come up the way it should. The piece that goes in the frame and comes out that the rear brake pedal attaches too seem to take a few wacks to get in the frame. I think the paint might be causing it to stick going to pull it out and sand and see how that goes any other suggestions or thoughts on the sticky rear brake.

As long as you are sure that the resistance isn't in the hub due to oxidized cam sticking in the hub or a broken spring in the hub . or maybe the pedal spring isn't on exactly right, or the brake pedal bracket  has been dented out of round- maybe that's why it takes a hammershot to get the lever back in. Does the lever travel freely in the mount after it is installed ? I think where ever you find the resistance you will solve the problem.                                                 RB

rb550  I think where ever you find the resistance you will solve the problem. That should be in a fortune cookie lol. Yeah I think its in the piece that I had to wack in going to pull it out again and do a light sanding on it till it goes in the way it should.

Well woke up to some snow on the ground this morning. Got the front fender, foot pegs, center stand done. Decided to work on the tach and speedo they were in rough shape.

50 degrees yesterday









got new gauge faces coming decided to cut the band I think next time I will try the paint can lid remover way of taking the metal ring off. Cutting it off was easy but I think it is going to be a pain to get back on will see.



Side note I can take a rack of carbs off and back on in 10 minutes but putting baby socks on took me 20 min this morning lol

Stock front rim 19 inch. Not sure on the body colors several ideas but not sure yet. Alot of my friends say the like the flat black on it now I sort of like but was never my plan to go all black.

You could get some of the plastidip paint and give it a temporary paint job to see if you like it. Spray on and if you don't like it, well you peel it off. Interesting concept.  Could do stripes on the tank if you like...

Got a few things done the last few days.




Turn signals, mirrors, gauges.



I have a question with cutting the front fender I lost that second mount that holds the speedo cable it doesn't seem like it will bounce into the tire but has anyone come up with a different way to mount it or any suggestions?



Larry and I looked at the electrical panel and it is really hacked up. I need to find a new one will post in the looking for parts section but does anyone have one they would like to sell?



I need to finish up the body work but kinda of waiting to get the exhaust done.

Lower bracket could be fabbed to bolt to the fork fender mount hole or maybe off the fork bottom but if using fork bottom I would have it replace the flat washers for both bolts.

How about a silver paint job?  Silver would accent the polished and bright work on the bike nicely.
