Influx of cheap parts from Asia
« on: September 11, 2012, 11:39:25 AM »
There is no secret that various vendors are importing cheap Asian made parts and selling them via the internet.  During my k1 resto I bough some non Honda stuff from a vendor only to find out that the stuff doesn't fit or in the case of rubber parts is of very poor quality.  It's too late to return the stuff as I got most of my stuff at the beginning of the resto.  I mostly bought not critical parts like cables, rubber but I did buy a wiring harness.  It seems to be holding up nicely but only time will tell if they've used wrong gauge wire.  It's commonly known that the emgo ignition switch on the cb750 melts itself because of  wrong size wires.  Passenger foot pegs have the wrong size bolt holes etc.  Cables too long/short. There just isn't the discipline to produce quality products like the Japanese did and I'm not talking only talking about motorcycle.

This is just a warning/rant to be careful and compare and test the parts before it's too late to return them or worse...

Here is what I'm talking about.  The rubber disintegrated after abut 50 miles.  The original honda ones last 40 plus years.

yeah its disapointing alright, they can copy stuff to make it look good but it dosent perform and corners will be cut to produce them.
