Recommend a tire change shop near Boston?
« on: July 25, 2012, 03:25:11 AM »
I have the rims, the tires, the tubes and rim strips.  I just need a shop to mount it all.  Any recommendations for a shop in the Boston area that does this cheaply and won't get PO'd that I didn't buy the tires from them?  I live up on the North Shore and work in the Boston area, so any places in or north of Boston would be ideal.

Thanks,
Aaron

Smooth Scooters in Medford can probably do it. They work on these older bikes.

Hey Aaron,

I have heard that Cliff's Cycles in Norfolk is great, but if I recall correctly you're in Belmont and that's a bit out of the way. Oh well, throw it on out there anyway.

Need a better, newer points cover gasket? How about rubber washers for the headlight bucket? Click the link below:

Thanks guys!

Untold:  I work close to Medford, so I'll give them a call.  The name of the place already sounds about right.  Thanks!

Crush:  I'm actually up in Beverly, which makes it even further from Norfolk, but I do appreciate the recommendation. Thanks!

Now get that thing assembled and inspected. You've got some riding to do!  ;D

Thanks Crush.  Soooo close.  After this I really just need to make a bracket to stop my center stand from hitting my chain.  Then it's off to get an inspection and hopefully the riding and tuning can move forward.  By the way, I should warn you that my bike is a little different than yours.  It was a basket case and I gave it the cafe treatment.  But I'm pretty happy with it and I've learned a ton.  In fact, this tire change is the first service I've had anyone else perform on this bike.  Replaced bearings, bushings, seals, repainted/polished/replaced lots of stuff, relocated/rebuilt the electrical, rebuilt the carbs, all brake components, etc etc.  Great experience.

By the way, I called Smooth Scooter and the guy sounds great.  I'm going to clean the rust out of the inside of the rims tonight and bring them over there tomorrow.

Great news on the Medford shop, and big thumbs up to you doing all of the work on the 750. I've got my own basket-case 550 that I have been wrenching on here and there but am very lucky to have my stock 550 in good condition.

I'm pumped to see your ride when it's good to roll.

I was over there yesterday and Smooth Scooters (I think called Smooth Automotive now) is highly recommended.  They changed my tires while I waited for what seemed like a fair price ($25/wheel).  They had a few old CB's in the shop and the mechanic  had a lot of experience with these old bikes.  In fact, he was working on his own 78 CB750.

Looks like they do all kinds of stuff (welding, carbs, etc), and none of the sales tactics that I sometimes experience at the larger places.

Just an FYI, I had my bike inspected here today.  Awesome!  Took 2 minutes, and none of the nonsense about upselling tires and crap.  The same mechanic was there.  He's very cool.
