CB750K5 LOCKED UP REAR TIRE..
« on: September 03, 2012, 03:37:53 AM »
I recently picked up a 750k5 and the previous owner was very parinoid and had the rear brakes tightned all the way to prevent theft.  So I got the rear tire to move about an inch now but now it seems to be held up by the chain so something in the transmission? I have it in Neutral and tried holding the clutch and no luck so can someone give me some ideas please ...
My only worry is that when I die my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I told her I paid for it..

Could be two things, one the adjustment is tighten too much.  The other is the inside of the drum.  The brake shoes are loose and the pivot may be stuck. I would put new shoes if they are original shoes.
Also is the chain rusted?

Well this thing has been sitting in a barn for the last 26yrs of its life..  and the adjustment was cranked all the way on and it was solid but I followed the advice of a Loacal mechanic and sprayed some PB Blaster in the seam of the drum and the rim and let it soak for a day and boom now its loose up to a certian point.  Now i can roll the bike back and forth about an inch and its free but its hanging up someplace else would it be posssible its in the transmission?  I need to get this thing in the garage the wife is getting pissed having two old half taken apart bikes outside lol

100% sure you are in neutral? If you need to get it in the garage I have used a snowmobile track dolly which works good. Put it under the rear tire and roll it in. When these vintage bikes sit a while the front brake can lock too. So you want to be sure to not pull the front brake handle or you will have the front tire stuck too. Once you get it in the garage you should be able to get the hub off and check it out.

Yeah the front was stuck too on the 77 So i Soaked that down with some PB Blaster and got that lubed up so it would roll again.  And I am almost certain I am in Neutral I run it down all the way and if i cant get it down all the way i pushed on the kick lever to help me get everything lined up and then up 1/2 Click and that's supposed to be neutral right? At least it has been on most things i have driven.  I have also tried pulling in the clutch to get everything to dis engage but that seems to make no difference at all either so maybe it is still something in the rear brake I dont have a dolly for a sled either looks like ill be man handling it today ha ha

Remove the chain, cutting it if you have to. You're going to put a new one on anyway, right? With the chain gone you'll know which end is the problem: rear wheel or transmission.

+1 take off the chain. If you can't cut it or get to the master then pull the axle.

One other thought...did you try the kick start lever to be sure the motor is not seized. Can happen after sitting so long.

Motor is not seized up I can use the kick start and hear it pulling and pushing air ans that's what I used to get the trans into 1st so I could pop it up into netural

I'm 90% sure that it's your rear brakes then. 10% it's the transmission. Try removing the chain and rear wheel.

If it has been sitting that long the clutch plates are probably going to be stuck together so don't bother with the clutch lever pull in towards your diagnosis. Another issue down the road.

Oh yeah, forgot about the likelihood of rusted clutch plates.

So I looked at it some more in neutral it moves 2 inches and in 1st it doesn't move at all but when I push down on the kick start it moves forward that same 2 inches and than stops again so it must be in the hub right ?

I think when you get the back wheel off you may find something wrong with the brake shoes binding/rusted etc.
