Not to hijack the thread but what happens when these big bore kits wear out? I've never seen any mention of an oversize for them and is there enough metal left to go oversize at all? Does one have to buy new (used) cylinders when these wear out?

New sleeves are fairly cheap...

Thanks! Interesting, I didn't think sleeves were so readily available.

In that case I might go this route too one day.

Used cylinders are probably cheaper than new sleeves.

Finally got my bike back together and she's running strong. So far I've had zero issues but have less then 50 miles on her so far. I did have to mess with my carb jetting a bit to get them running right as I have the finicky PD46C's for my model '78. Ill report back as soon as I get more seat time.

So far I'd give the 600cc kits a thumbs up.

Sweet! Any chance you can post a video? What did you have to do to make the set up work?

Link works. Sounds nice. Was it direct swap of the pistons or did you have to machine the sleeves?

Please, find a set of those foam socks you can lightly oil to slip over your velocity stacks, you don't want to ingest dust, dirt, or bugs to ruin all that hard work.
I think bwaller used a set of them on his stacks for his race bike.
About once a month, pop them off and clean and re-oil and you are good to go.

Remote oil filter kit will make maintenance much easier...after pulling the exhaust the 2nd or 3rd time you will be looking for one... ;)

Chris at MotoGPWorks did a nice job designing the pipe for Carpy (Carpy subbed the build of the pipe overseas from Chris's drawings and prototype.) Chris makes a removable version with spring mounts for easy removal of the header portion in stainless and sells them directly. Naturally, it is more expensive.
Are you/did you having your Carpy pipe ceramic coated or Jet-Hot coated (ceramic)?
Pipe sounds nice...

The only machining that was done was the cylinders had to be bored out 3mm which is pretty much the limit of the stock liners. This also costs more at the machine shop as its considered an overbore and not just a refreshing of the liner walls. At my machine shop the standard rate is only up to 1mm over. I think I paid $200 not including shipping.

I've been considering going to K&N filters or UNI's for the reasons above but have been hesitant since I just finally got all my jetting correct.

Can you give me a link to this remote system. I'm already tired of removing the exhaust as I'm a stickler for fresh oil and filters.

Right now they are not coated and they are getting surface rust fast if I don't wipe em down with oil. Ill probably Jet-Hot them after fall time riding.

There are a few choices, CycleX and Randakk's are the two that come to mind.
http://www.cyclexchange.net/Oil%20System%20Comp%20Page.htm

http://www.randakk.com

$90 for block off part at CycleX
then remote filter mount PermaCool 1211 - $16  at Summit Racing and the get some 90 degree brass 1/2 npt to barbed adapters at hardware store, some 1/2" oil hose  and clamps. Or the Summit relocation kit for $43 sum-g4985-1 or for bling get spectra braided oil line for the 1/2 hose
The 90 degree barbed are preferred for mounting ease.
Or spend $169 at CycleX for complete kit.

Just saw randakk's only has the spin on adapter & are out of stock....

So I have bad compression and i just want a simple fix. I don't want to go larger than +1mm because the manual says not to ::) i just want . 5mm rebore. Anyone know where to buy smaller bore kits. Clymer says they made . 25mm pistons??

If the bike hasn't ran for a  long period of time, compression may improve if driven more.... What are your numbers? past history of the bike////??

Bike has been running worse and worse. Went for 1 1/2 hour ride started up next day, ran really bad. Has always had poor acceleration from 1/2 throttle to full open until it gets into high rpm, then it has a lot of kick. But suddenly my martek 440 crapped out and isn't running cylinders 1 and 4 at all. Going to compression test tomorrow, so I'll have those readings. Sigh... One thing after another with this bike.  20k at least miles on it.

If cylinders 1 and 4 arent firing. I would check the coils.... 1 and 4 for one coil 2 and 3 for the other coil... make sure you have spark to every cylinder... I have a feeling it doesn't have poor compression.... check the timing as well. Go back to points for the time being..

check each pipe when the bike is running.. see if each are hot as well when the bike is warm...

It won't hurt to do the 3k tune up..

Thanks guys, sorry to hijack the thread. Unfortunately/fortunately I just replaced the coils with dyna 5 ohm ones. The wires were in horrible shape, couldn't splice em. I just bought a dyna s, hope it fixes it. As far as compression, the rented kit didn't have 12mm threads ::). So i bought an adapter for 10$ on ebay.

I am thinking it's simple wiring. Are the coils hooked up properly? PIcs?

The bike ran totally fine for probably for a month (300 miles) with the new coils.  It just suddenly didn't run the next morning. Zero problems the day before. On a side note, I'm going to build a carb synchronizer via tubes and AT fluid. Local bike shop charges for 1 1/2 hours labor!!! I told him it was cheaper and better for me to buy one than have him do it. After some thought I'm fairly certain cylinder 3 was out of sync.  Because now that only 2 and 3 are running, 3 runs great. Wish me luck.

I used these guys:

John Edwards really knows his stuff but you will have to wait in line to get your stuff back. Definitely not a 24hr turn around there but well worth the wait.
