HELP!! honda cl360 wont idle down
« on: September 04, 2012, 01:11:38 PM »
My buddy bought this sweet cl360 it sat for awhile and now when he rides it the idle wants to continue revving  very high!
He wants me to fix it so I thought somebody on here could sorta point me in the right direction. I have never messed with
vaccume/ diaphram carbs so not to sure what to expect.
Thanks sohcphreek

easy stuff first..
1. turn down the idle adjust screw.
2. check all the rubber boots between the airbox and carbs for air leaks.

Those bikes had trouble with the diaphram rubber under the carb cover getting cracks in the rubber. Might want to give that a look see. Easy to do by removing just 2 screws each.

It'd be good to pull your points plate off and then pull out your timing advance unit and service it;the grease dries out, also check the 2 springs and make sure you have even & correct tension on both of them.

What did you do, then, to get it idling correctly?

As for the clutch, if you have proper free play at the lever, then it sounds like you just have a garden-variety slipping clutch.  That is, it needs new clutch plates.

I cleaned carbs and reset air/idle and set the idle and gave it a good shot of wd40!
I know real difficult stuff!
was hoping after some running and driving the plates might free-up? Can they be cleaned
or where should I get new plates, any tricks I need to know! or special tools required?
Thanks Chris

You need to check the adjustment, loosen the cable adjusters and pop that little cover off where the clutch cable goes into the sprocket cover, loosen the locknut and back out the screw a little then screw it back in till it just touches, then back it off 1/4 turn and lock down the nut.Re-adjust cable and try it.
