Header gauge?
« on: September 04, 2012, 08:37:50 pm »
Once again, I searched first to no avail...What would be a good gauge of steel to use for a header/resonator build? I am making only one set, so I won't be buying the $800+ slip roller that can handle 16 gauge, but the cheaper ones only do 20. Is this too thin?

Opinions please!

 I wouldn't use anything under 18 gauge .043 in.   ;)

I've rolled 16ga with my cheap 3 in 1 roller, brake, shear.
It's rated @ 18 ga mild steel.
You just need to be patient and work slowly.

I assume you need the roller just for the resonator, and build the header itself using mandrel bends.
16ga mild steel or 18ga stainless would be my choice of materials, resonator could be 18ga MS depending how short the pipes are before the collector, i.e. "how hot does the resonator get?".
