Mechanical rear disc for CB 750..
« on: September 07, 2012, 09:52:04 PM »
 Been toying with this idea..
Got a CB 200 fork, has a cable operated disc.  10.25inch Disc weighs approx 4 lbs undrilled, 750 front weighs approx 6lbs. Bolt circle is a bit smaller, could use adaptor or carve out a new hub.

Be easy to setup a cable brake, but anyone know if there is any stopping power? anyone tried this?

I've ridden a couple of those little Honda's with the cable operated discs Frank, and they were pretty awful. Having said that though, they'd probably be fine for a rear brake, as normally your rear brake only represents 30 percent of your braking power.

I'm still looking for an original Hurst/Airheart rear disc conversion for a CB750, they were neat! I know CycleX does a copy but it's a bit half assed compared to the original. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

If you need more force couldn't you use a pulley reducer of some sort and make your pad tolerance (overall pad travel) close enough to be able to use a standard lever?

Just an idea, I like where this may lead, lightweight and simplistic.

I have a little 200 twin in the shed and quite frankly the front brake is awful, but as Terry said it would possibly suffice for a rear.
