Max allowable overbore on 550 liners?
« on: September 08, 2012, 06:44:08 am »
Forgive me if this isn't purely race/Hi-Po stuff, but I figured if anyone would know, you guys would...  :)

I'm looking at the $120 CB550 big bore kit on ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-CB550F-CB550K-600cc-Bigbore-Piston-Kits-with-Head-Gasket-CB550FBB-/140846252932?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20cb174384&vxp=mtr

I'm told that this sellers offer CB750 kits and they seem to be of ggod quality. However, I've been told that 61mm is the max overbore for the 550 liners. This kit is 61.5mm.
 Thoughts?

550 liners are 65,5mm outside so this wil create a wall thicknes of 2mm
this is the absolute minimum for this
650 liners are  a little thicker  [ 65,8mm]
but is not a direct fit

550 block I go to 61mm, but 61.5mm would work. Run it on 85% ethanol so it runs cooler and liners do not distort...haha
