Don's paint a winner!
« on: July 01, 2006, 09:14:39 PM »
Just got all the painted parts back from the paint shop.  To say
I'm impressed with Don "the paint guys" paint is an understatement.  ;D

Maybe the next time I will try doing it myself....but not this time... with
these parts.

Attached....a couple of pics.

WoW! That's nice.
I just tried painting a tank with that Dupli-Color Metalcast paint. Sure looked good on the cap of the can but when I put it on a large area it had streaks of uneven color.

excellent complete kit for the price, I highly reccomend him. I have 3 more kits to use up in the next few weeks!

Bob,

To answer your question,  some idiot on a cell phone rammed me in the
rear...in my car...several years ago.  Actually he was an insurance adjuster
here to cover hurricane damage...figure that one out.  :o  Anyway, the
shop that repaired my car did such a good job that I had him do the
diecast and now the sandcast parts.  He used his material on the diecast
and it looked really good but not as good as Don's kit.

This tank had a couple of dints....one right where the badge goes.  I can
now see no evidence of it at all.  He also fixed some minor cracks in the
airbox and some other stuff that was beyond the call of just painting.

He is really in the business of auto repai,r so I don't know how much of this
type work he wants.  The cost for all the parts and the repairs....$600.  See,
I knew you would ask.  ;D

Techy,

Was it one of Don's standard kits? I'm asking because the K0's have more painted parts than the later models. If I get one, just want to make sure it has enough paint, or did you have to ask him for a bit more than normal?

Just painted the tank, rear fender and side covers for my VT700C using that Dupli-Color Metalcast paint. This time it worked quite well. The under coat is basically a metal flake and the top coat is a "see through" paint. I chose what looked like Candy Apple Red.
The problem I was having with this paint is the cheap nozzle they put on the can. I found a much better nozzle on another can of spray paint and it worked good.
I attempted taking a couple pict's but they don't show the true color or the metal flake. I'll try again later. I plan to contact Dupli-Color and see if it is available in quarts. That way I can use my good paint sprayer.

Bob,

It was Don's standard kit and it was all used.  I was hoping he would have enough
left for a second tank I have, but no such luck.  ::)
