Stearman Ride
« on: September 07, 2012, 01:05:43 PM »
I got a ride in a Stearman biplane today. It was freakin awesome! We did a loop and a screaming dive, buzzed a lake, didn't find another one to fly formation with but that's OK. I live in the pattern for the formation flying contest so I get to see and hear them every year. Pictures later.
We auctually went there to ride in a Ford Trimotor but couldn't resist the Stearman ride instead. The trimotor is awesome too, maybe next year.

Sounds like a great ride.  I went up in a B-17 several years ago.  Was it this Ford trimotor?

I think it is the same Tri Motor!

The one I flew in white and green, this is my brother coming back.

My house from the Stearman, the new sidewalk ends at my house in the center of the pic, the white trailer is for my dragster.

Wish I could have taken a pic during the loop but I was afraid I'd loose the camera. Lol.
A B17 would be the ultimate ride. A friend of mine crews on a B25 that's too cool.

I always wondered if in the heat of battle anyone ever shot their own wing or tail.

I wondered the same thing when I went up.  How easy it would have been.  Guess that was what the training was for. ;)

I think some guns had lock outs that interrupted fire if it was in a geometric plane that would fire into the empendage like the tail...

I would assume that would be needed, in the heat of air to air combat, well I can only imagine.
