unless it's motorcycle related. BINGO!

I've even debated on getting the bike fixed for him. Maybe you guys could give me your opinion on that? Should I wait and let him fix it or have it fixed for him? What would you like better?

Hi Felicia! Yes, let him fix it. It's called occupational therapy!  ;D ;D

PS Have you found what B.O.X.N.I.F.E. means yet? ???

Let him rebuild it. First, if someone else does it, he'll never be satisfied because he won't know exactly to what standards it was done. Second, the physical rebuilding is going to do absolute wonders for his physical and mental healing- it'll give him a sense of commend of the situation, and that's invaluable for anyone.

I would have to agree with scottly and dusty.  Working on your own bike is almost meditative and the sense of accomplishment you get when you are done is indescribable.  On top of that, it will make him think and use motor skills (both fine and gross).

The only think I can think to be wary of is him getting frustrated due to his left (i think) side being slightly delayed.  Either way, i still think it would be a good idea.  I would also want to see the bike in person, not pictures, so I could touch it and start to make a plan on what needs to be done to fix it.

I cant speak for everyone, but I have been here a good while and I would be willing to bet that when he starts working on it parts sources here will be very affordable.

Felicia-

Trevor will get a lot of intangibles working on his bike.  It is certainly physical and mental therapy.  It could also be somewhat cathartic.  It seems like he'll be able to start well before he is able to ride.  Working on the bike, though it might be hard for him, will help fill the void of not being able to be on it.  Also, connecting with the forum members with the project status/needs should also be good for him.  Thanks for the update.

Think of all the fine motor skills it takes to work on a bike, turning wrenches, spinning on nuts. What great physical therapy. It would be nice if somebody could get a look at the bike so we could start sending the parts he needs or at least setting them aside. that way when he is ready he has everything he needs.

Very true. We all have some parts floating around that could go to his rebuild. I know I have plenty of 550 stuff.

There may not be enough left of Trevor's bike to rebuild. :( It would be REALLY cool if folks could donate the parts to build a bike from scratch.  8) 8) 8)

Having been hit hard from the back and then dragged an ungodly distance I would guess there is probably little that could be salvaged from the original bike.

Are we going to do a parts drive for a 550K or 550F?  Year has some impact on the build because of the variations in equipment if it is going to be a stock build.

Hi Felicia,

Is it possible to get some pics of the bike so we can access it?
I am willing to donate parts and/or money towards a rebuild.
We could start a drive.

Best of luck...

Same here. If this happens, I'll dig through my stuff and be happy to donate some parts. Where are Trevor and the bike? What part of the country? EDIT: Little Rock...it helps to readd all the posts...hehe.

With all the responses with people who have parts and willing to donate I think the idea is totally feasible but we need to come up with a plan to make it happen, most importantly decide who's going to put the bike together whether it be Trevor or one of us then figure what if anything is still usable from Trevors bike then make a complete list of what parts/components are needed and check those parts off the list as donors step up. If we don't then the person putting the bike together might end up being swamped with extra parts but still lack parts they need. You can add me to the list of people who have 550 parts available.

We need to start by finding out what the bike needs, or get all the parts together for a whole bike (most likely). Would be best if we could send one or 2 guys from Arkansas over to assess the situation.  Once all parts are gathered, we could have a "rally" out there.  Several people ride out there and HELP him put it together.  It might take a few trips, maybe a group go out one weekend, a few weekends later another group go out, etc...   Need to find a place local to work out of.

...we might consider that Trevor might want to build the bike himself, or have a say in how it is built, or that it might be a long time still before he is gonna ride, or that his family might have some say in the decision.  Bottom line...I think we should hear from Trevor himself when he is ready.

Completely agree with Seanbarney. Trevor should be driving this. Doesn't mean we can't help with donating bits of whatever he needs.

In any case, in an attempt to keep things vaguely organized, I've thrown up a spreadsheet on Google Docs. Anyone with a link can access it, so feel free to post it around. It's blank so far, but as soon as we know what we need/have, we can start filling it in.

+1.

Is Trevor even aware of this at all? Is there any way he can be contacted to fill him in on it so that way when and if he becomes ready he'll know all he has to do is ask?

Hi Everyone,

This is Trevor's girlfriend Felicia. We are still in Little Rock. I don't foresee us going anywhere anytime soon.

We spent a good bit of time reading posts this weekend. He said you all are awesome and that he thanks you a lot for caring about him. I learned so much about how much he can remember and just what he knows (yes I was fact checking him via the internet just to be sure) about motorcycles. I found a new past time... just reading thur different posts on here. His reading isn't very good. It's hard for him to focus for more than a hand full of words... unless it's motorcycle related. BINGO!

He wants to rebuild a bike so bad and get on the road again. We haven't shown pictures of his bike to him/let him see it. I'm torn on how that might impact him. I've given him a light version of what his bike looks like (needs a rear tire, new seat, gas tank, handlebar and mirror) and ask if those are all things he can fix and of course he says yes. Just use your imagination of a bike getting hit directly from behind when that person was speeding on the interstate. I've even debated on getting the bike fixed for him. Maybe you guys could give me your opinion on that? Should I wait and let him fix it or have it fixed for him? What would you like better?

Neuro Doc gave him a thumbs up and wants to possible do some research on him to see how his brain is wired and how many fibers were damaged/came back. Basically a super in depth MRI and a few other non intrusive tests. Science is cool! Trevor thought it was neat. This week he got his feeding tube out too! Next step full solid foods and hopefully non thickened liquids soon.

Criminal Trial is April 30th and May 1st at the 7th district court in Little Rock. If you are in the area, we'd love to have you come. I do plan on packing it!

Happy Easter!!
Sounds like this post needs to be bumped... ;)
