thanks for the info. I would read that stuff if it was a little easier to find. Searching google with sohc in the search bar is getting old.

Anyone ever suggested a little updating of the forum?

if you don't do so already, put this in first in your google search before your search terms to weed out unwanted results-

site:forums.sohc4.net

so for example, " site:forums.sohc4.net cb550 not charging"

yeah thats what i have been doing. its works fine, it just gets a little frustrating having to use google all the time.

so back to original problem, i went through the check list and procedures that was on the link someone posted. everything hecked out fine, but the problem is still there.

i pulled my headlamp fuse to see if it was pulling too much power and it seemed to run a little better. So i installed an on off switch for the headlight. i'm going for a ride soon, we'll see if running with headlight off changes anything.

how about going through all your electrical connections, and cleaning them?  each and every one.
electrical systems on these CB's is a maintenance item all on its own.  it needs to be taken care of.
you can chase charging problems all you want, but it wont matter if you're corroded somewhere and dont take care of it.
melted fuse housing is an indicator.

I agree you will have to do this sooner or later so you may as well get it over with. It is time consuming but it MUST be done with no short cuts. Approach it as if you are changing the entire wire harness and sub harnesses. No easy way to put it or do it.

i forgot to mention that i did this today. I had a bit of corrosion at my rectifier and regulator connections. We'll see if that did the trick. It only took about 45min and wasnt that bfd.

Just use the Google Custom Search at the bottom of the header bar and you won't have to go through all of this extra BS. Learn how to use the search function.

That is fast work. Took me about that long just in the bucket :( But I am old and slow. It's hell to get old but the wind in the face still feels good.

i had just rewired the mini gauges in the headlight bucket a few days earlier and i cleaned those all then, so that made it go faster the second time around cleaning the rest of the connections.
