CB550 swingarm overhaul
« on: September 10, 2012, 02:18:57 PM »
So i've got some play in my swing arm so I'm going to go ahead and replace the bushings. I was wondering if the collar ever needs to be replaced.  It's part number 14 in the fiche in the link.

http://www.ronayers.com/Fiche/TypeID/26/Type/Motorcycle/MakeID/1/Make/Honda/YearID/16/Year/1975/ModelID/9131/Model/CB550K1/GroupID/439290/Group/SWINGARM_@_REAR_SHOCK_ABSORBER

I can't imagine it would see much wear but would like to hear some other opinions before i start.  I was going to get parts 11-16 but don't know if 14 is a necessity.  Thanks for the input

Get some of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-CB-250-360-400-500-550-750-Four-swingarm-bronze-bushing-set-bearing-new-/280818288488?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4162130768
These will replace replace #'s 11, 12, and 16.

And unless your swingarm bushings are really worn or corroded the collar will be fine. It may have some minor pitting that can be cleaned up with some emery cloth.
But do be sure check the swing arm bolt for straightness while you have it out.

Cool thanks. so with the bronze bushings you no longer need the felt washers but still need the dust caps right?

Part #15, yes. But check yours first, they may be ok to reuse.

sounds good is there any real improvement using the bronze bushings vs the oem stuff? Seems they'll come out to about the same price?
