headlight on=no turn signal, headlight off=turn signals
« on: May 14, 2012, 07:05:21 PM »
Just got my bike back from THE WORST SHOP IN GA(PRO-TECH&TUNE). Since I got this job out of town I figured someone could pick up where I left off for a few bucks. A few bucks later, I found out this dude was a 7 month scam with a legitimate shop...

One of my current problems is when I turn on the headlight the turn signals will not turn on, but they will work when the headlights off. I know I need a new flasher, and I'm also trying this without rear singals on the bike(the rear signals were lost at that sh!thole). Would either one of those be the cause of the problem?

Yes. or a low battery.

you need those back signals in there before you can make any tests. Working with the headlights off mean that the fronts are pulling ground through the running lamp circuit, and not the actual ground.. You may want to get into the wiring diagram and check the grounds.

I am having this same issue. I am about 99% sure the issue is because of bad grounds from the previous owner when aftermarket turn signals were installed. It definitely looks like the ground is pulling from the headlamp. I would assume to fix this, simply follow a wiring diagram and get the grounds reconnected to their original position!?

Thanks

Dude, to expect your signals to work with 'front only' installed and none on the back is ... well....
Let's say it will not work  :)

Yes. or a low battery.

Good call. Always start with a good, freshly charged battery especially on these bikes. Signals won't work when the battery gets drained but if the headlight is off you might have just enough juice to run the signals. On the later models the headlight is always on. Before I bought a battery bug display I knew my battery was getting low when the signals quit working.
