Terry; interesting anecdote about your cousin, i appreciate that kind of input.

I'd like to talk to the Honda engieer that finally looked at the chains under a microscope.

I'm open to the idea that there were multiple reasons, but i cling to the acid as being the primary.

I'm partial to grape, BTW.   :D   :D

A lot of batterieswont"go flat after a month"

If you are running without c-stand, I run the battery overflow thru the right hand clamp for the c-stand, it stays in there. When I change batteries, I just undo the overflow hose, and reuse it.

I tell people repeatedly not to use 16 tooth sprockets for hard use, they did not help the chain problem on the first 44, 000 fours..

My Triumph Rocket III has a fancy sealed battery and it went flat, as did the fancy sealed battery in my BMW K1100LT. When I tried to start the BMW after 3 or 4 weeks there wasn't enough charge to crank the bike, but just enough to weld the contacts on the starter relay, which cost me 150 bucks for a used replacement.

While I agree that a sealed battery is a great thing compared to our old lead/acid battery in terms of longevity etc, I learned pretty quickly that any battery will live longer and happier if connected to a "smart" charger when not in use. I just bought one of the new "Optimate" chargers for my current BMW R100RS, and it's brilliant. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
