Wow, he was quite young too.
My condolences.

Both of his parents out-lived him by 30 years or more; that's one of the reasons it has been such a shock to us....

This pic was taken in 1982, at Rabbit Springs dry lake, near Apple Valley, CA. This was also the site of the para-sailing adventure that resulted in me bouncing off the lake surface.

Scott,

your cup overfloweth, so sorry to hear your sad news. But you two seemed to have some , sorry lots, of great times together with many memories to cherish. If you start to feel down, I'd wager that Henry will be watching from above exhorting you to go get out and have more good times cos he'd probably do the same if the roles were reversed.

Here's a picture of Henry's other riding buddy, Rex. You couldn't start up a thumper near him without him jumping aboard. He damn near knocked me over on my FT500 once. He didn't just take putts around a neighborhood, he rode hill-climbs, took berm-shots, sand-dunes, wheelies, you name it. Henry swore the dog learned to read the trail, and would reposition himself for any upcoming change in direction, just like the human monkey on a sidecar.

I recently saw an online article about how certain vaccines could prevent heart attacks and strokes, and when I read the part about shingles, it maybe explains what happened to Henry. He had just gotten over shingles before the massive stroke that killed him. The shingles first manifested with pain in the left side of his neck, where the artery that eventually collapsed was. I think I'll get the vaccination; if Henry had, he might still be here....

Other Vaccines that Reduce Heart Attack Risk

Along with a flu shot, Dr. Bale recommends two other vaccinations to reduce heart attack and stroke risk if you’re 50 or older and have CVD. If you don’t have plaque in your arteries, you should still get these shots, but at an older age, as discussed below:

The herpes zoster vaccination against shingles. This shot protects against reactivation of the chickenpox virus almost everyone was exposed to during childhood. The virus, which lies dormant in nerve cells, can flare up, typically in older people, and cause a blistering skin rash that can lead to chronic nerve pain. Two large studies report that people who develop shingles are at up to four times higher risk for stroke, highlighting the value of vaccination. While shingles usually targets people who are 60 or older, about 20 percent of cases occur in people ages 50 to 59, which is why Dr. Bale advises being vaccinated at 50 if you have CVD.

The quality of the pics don;t matter. It is the memories. i called my best friend yesterday, he barely made it out of the WTC on 9/11. I was glad I could still call him.

I connected with my best friend last month, we had lost contact for a few years.
His life has been a roller coaster ride, and not in a good way [booze, #$%*es and drugs].
Things are better for him now, I was happy to see it.
I will miss it when I can't talk and laugh with him.

Sorry for your loss Scott.

Henry didn't have a problem with booze or drugs. He was finally ridding himself of the "other" issue when he passed, and was happier than he'd been in years and years. It was good to see him getting back to himself, which made it so much more tragic to have him ripped away from his new beginning... :'(

How much sadder would it be to never have had a friend like him in your life? Many people never do. Consider yourself blessed for the time you knew him.

I actually had a few chuckles today with Henry's stepson today while going through his stuff; I would find a home-made tool and tell the story of it's creation, or find an odd tool and ask Corey if he knew what it was. I found another of those old rev-counter/tachs and made him think about it for a while before I told him what it was. I told him to keep it, as well as some antique wrenches... :)
