Well it is a good point they raise that if the bikes runs and idles well then there is not much point in cleaning the carbs. However, it is likely that at some point you will probably need to learn how to do it.

When I did my first rebuild I studied and followed this guide:

yeah it was quite throughout "walk through" On one point im afraid to take the carbs apart because of A: Im sure I'll find out that something is broken. B: I can't afford to fix it. But next time I'll take some time and consideration and then we will see what happens.

Oh man, that must have cost you a fortune?  How long time had your bike been siting before your restoration?

Ok, since I hadn't got the top tree last weekend I figured there wasn't any reason for me to go home and continue with the bike.
So I've done what I could...... siting in front of the computer and ordering stuff from ebay.

Tomorrow I'll go home and the plan is.
Friday & saturday - Assembly
Sunday - Make it work as good as possible
Monday - Leave it to a Local Honda shop, to sync the carbs, adjust the carbs and other "fine tuning" !

I've ordered and got a cb750 76 top tree.

New Renthal Road race grips. The real Daytona CR750 that my friend have had similar grips Kind of think they look fast and clean


A steering lock

Black Oberon bar end mirrors, they are a little pricey but everyone says the quality is much better and I kind of like Quality and 20$ here or there.


NHK steering damper. Don't know which model and seller said 520mm !?!? that seems pretty long but Ill guess I can measure it when it arrives and try to find which model it is.



I gave the broken unicorn top tree to a friend who's a good aluminium welder. He welds the aluminium frame on the universitys racecar so I figure he must be good
I machined a "fake fork leg" and he then cut out and welded, it looks en feels good.

Well that depends on what you define as a "race car" but it is a car built for racing on the track ! haha

This weekend I tried to assembly the bike. The fact of having "2" different lokations for your parts finally starts to show. I lost the bolts to the under tree so That's a setback and needs to be found/ordered somewhere. And overall some of screw and bolts are missing which takes a lot of extra time to compensate.

 Tomorrow I will try to finish, whats left is Electrics, Clutch and throttle cables, assembly the airbox, bleed the front brakes and some minor stuff..
I fear for the airbox and electrics and frankly I'm starting to get fed up with the bike. The spring is here and this day i Saw at least 40 bikes. While all I find is bended bolts and rounded heads And the whire harnes is a joke.. would like to change everything but don,  have the time nor the money.... Regardless on how much I can complete tomorrow at monday I will take the bike to a honda-shop and let him do the rest. I simply don't have time, power or interest to put more time in the garage for now. I want to ride

Yeah, I bet it's really fun to drive !

Hm, yes and on someway I think it's "harder" to work and try to get old things to work. And by that I mean old screws,bolt, carburator rubber etc. The stupid air box took me like 2 hours with a heating gun to get back on...
Whish I had another bike, then I wouldn't be so desperate to fix this one .... My next bike are going to be a Ducati sport classic without a doubt

I continued with the assembly of the bike and can't say much about that.
The status for now is, pretty much everything is assemblied.

What to do tomorrow is:
- fix the electrics
- Fill in new oil in engine
- Fill with new fork oil
- Bleed the brakes
- mount the tank, covers and seat.
- get the basterd to start !

Yup

Yesterday I did the rest, bleeded the brakes, filled with oil in engine and fork oil. Then tried to start it.....

First attempt...... startermotor and a little fire....

Second atempt.... starter motor ... VROOOM ! HAHA you got to love hondas I let the bike run for a 5 minutes or so then drove it down to a local honda shop. So he can do some last touches and inspections. TIming, carburetors, etc.

Thanks IW, Yeah the solid red looks good sometimes and sometimes I want a re-paint. But that's far down the economic road and would cost me around 1200$

Well today I got the steering damper. After doing some measurements I've come to the conclusion that it has to be a NHK 3190E, which must be good since it's the most expensive It cost me 55 $ with shipping

It's massive though, the total length is 535 mm and the stroke is 190 mm. Any body have some "rules of thumb" when it comes to steering dampers ? mounting ? service ? etc...




I've seen like 14135 mounting types. But I've read somewhere that I should try to take advantage of as much stroke as possible..

I've read and experience tendencies to wobbling. And since I plan on riding the bike at highway speeds etc. I want to feel secure and "safe" on the bike. Same reason I converted to dual discs, Even my father who had plenty of cb500, cb750, cb900, cb1100 etc. (honda only guy) said people drove with steering dampers back in the day. Down the road im also looking for a fork brace and modern rear shocks and further down progressive fork springs and better swingarms bushings

I've never experienced a wobble on my K4 even at high speed.  My brother had a Yamaha XS1100 that would develop a high speed wobble in the turns but was caused by a small aftermarket fairing he installed.
How are you going to mount that?

I`ve experienced one high sdpeed wobble way back when I had my first K1 . Maybe the first year I owned on the interstate screaming down I20 with my hair on fire. The most scary thing I`ve ever experienced. Turned out to be loose spokes in the rear wheel...............Gary
