« on: June 29, 2006, 12:12:44 PM »
hey, i just picked up an 86 XL350 for $50 but it needs a new motor or a severe top end replacement, i was just wondering if anyone could tell me which other engines would fit so i can search around and get this thing running. thanks!

Nothing else will work! Its junk!  for the 50 I'll take it off your hands!
I would guess a xr will fit too.  dont know what years changed.   Saw a 83 at a dealer the other day.
wanted it bad.

:D sorry, i think i'll keep this one for now. i just tore it apart right down to the bare frame and started stripping the paint, the frame is going red and the tank, fenders, swingarm, and forks are going black.

Tell me that the yam engine is an RD400 item mate, and not a poxy boat anchor four stroke? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

sorry Terry, it is a poxy boat anchor 4 strke, it needs a bit of tweaking here and there but who can resist a challenge. If it does turn out to be a pile of crap I've got another idea in the works

well i called a buddy last night about it, and he said it's pretty much usless to look for another 350 around here, cuz the valves all went on them, the 500 is too tall, and the 250 wasn't very good, so at his suggestion i'm looking for a 2 stroke to put in seeing as they're shorter in stature, and i just plain like 2 strokes. he's got an old dual shock CR250 that i may look at but i don't want to take an engine out of a perfectly good bike someone could restore, he's going to keep an eye out for anything else.

any thoughts on the 2 stroke idea? i figure a 250 2 stroke would be enough, would a 125 be suitable as well? dare i look for an even bigger one?
