Thank you Toycollector. Maybe we could have a "bike of the week" so we all have the chance to be the winner at least once.... ;-)

I am still waiting for this to be split up into categories.  I personally have a hard time voting between a beautiful cafe'd bike and a pristine stocker or a beautiful resto.  or a rat bike with lots of character for that matter.  seems more about voter's preference of type than about which bike is best.  If one month was only cafe's, the next all stockers, and the next a "best rat bike" contest, I think we would be forced to scrutinize the candidates more, rather than allowing our general preferences to dictate our votes.  But in any form I am all for giving these bikes the praise they deserve and I would second all the nominations so far.

we're all winners here ;),

I agree with KK, it's really hard to judge between such diverse (and beautiful) bikes.  Perhaps we can have a different catagorie of BOTM each month.  Sept - Cafes, Oct. - Stockers, etc.   :)

I humbly agree with the idea of catagories. Last month was a perfect example. All bikes were very nice, but each appealed to a different style.

That's true, KK makes a very good point about the category thing. Would it be too much to
have it a different category each month, like it was mentioned, and maybe an overall winner for the
year? Just wondering. Gotta give a bunch of credit to the other styles but, I'm drawn more to the
Cafe Racer types (& variations of Race Bikes). Just some more 2-cents worth. Later on, Bill

Don´t want to step on anyone´s toes, but I´ve got speak my mind although I´m a newbie....

I´m having a hard time seeing the point in dividing bikes into classes.

First, there would always be a grand discussion what bike should belong to what class. Is a stocker with ace-bars or clip-ons a caferacer? Or can a caferacer have a dual seat or does that make it a custom? Or is a custom a ratbike because it has flatblack rattlecan paint? Hmm....

Second, what difference does it make if one have to choose between a variety of styles or a strict "cafe class" for example?
If everyone just chooses the bike they like the most based on their individual taste, whether it concours restorations, customs, choppers, caferacers etc, it won´t matter if a bike is presented amongst other styles....

These are just my thoughts on the subject, hope no one is offended by them!

Thanks for the nomination. With so many superb bikes to choose from it's an honour to be put up for BOTM. Must say that DME's bike looks a killer ride. I love the cafe stuff. I also really appreciate all the other styles and types and admire them all for reasons as diverse as the bikes themselves. I suppose I just love all things related to bikes. So good luck to all the nominations. The bikes mentioned and featured on this site are awesome and a tribute to their respective owners. Just been out on my Dunstall and boy does it put a huge smile on my face and make everything else seem that little bit less significant. So keep, riding, restoring and most of all contributing to the forums. I have much to learn from you all....

I put my toes out to see if anyone would give em a stomp and your response was too well thought out to be offensive.  I will respond, though, motivated only by a desire to keep the dialogue going.  It may also be worth noting that i TOO meant no offense towards the organizers (heffay?) of the BOTM poll, which is a positive and valuable aspect of the forum.  that said...

First- these grey area bikes you describe could be put into any category the owner or nominator thought they would do best in.  i agree that the categories shouldn't be there to limit which bikes can be nominated.  once entered though, the contest would still be about which bike we like the best, not which is "cafe'er than thou" or the most stock.  I just think the critique evolve into something more specific to whatever bikes have been entered.  So your ratbike could beat out the other cafe bikes during the cafe contest if it had something about it that made people vote for it.  But people would have to look for those little things in order to vote.  We all do this already and sometimes can't pick the best apple because some of them are oranges and others are bananas.  maybe i'm bananas because its beautiful outside and I have a nicely running CB550 outside that i can only take on clandestine unlicensed three year old tagged rides to the big parkinglot two blocks from my house.

Passed a cop earlier today.  too busy staring at the bike to notice the 3 year old texas tags and lack of indicators; and my newbie ass at the controls! ;D
glad i polished her up real good before I ever even rode it.

(for those who would caution and warn i am signed up for an MSF course but my three month wait is only two months over... thought it would take me longer to get her running right)

so yeah, keep discussing the category idea.  and do try not to go off on some tangent.
-KK

And yes, I was motivated by watching last months BOTM poll and not being able to pick a "winner" let alone 3 losers.

was quietly sitting back and listening...

I haven't chosen a side quite yet but, i can see the point about "what bike goes where?" comment.

if we could choose 6 categories, there would be 2 times per year that category would be up for vote.

fundamentally i agree with this, and never wanted strict categorization.  a little categorization helps, but dogmatic separation of bikes would defeat the purpose... which was... to get away from picking which KIND of bike i like and pay attention to the things the owners have done to each bike and which one impresses me on that level.  so if you have made your orange shoot out apple juice when yopu squeeze it and its the best damn apple juice anyone's ever tasted, then enter it in the appe contest... it just might win.

ok someone else can use the soapbox

I guess we could do this really difficult if we wanted ;)
Let´s not get too serious about it, we´re just talking about old Hondas, aren´t we ;D
It will be fine either way, actually.
Especially considering how easy-going people seem to be on this forum 8)

Cheers and goodnight from Sweden

Well whatever is decided. will work I'm sure. I was agreeing about classes because it is very difficult for me (and obviously for others) to choose from the bikes that are nominated. Just like this time, I was especially drawn toward MRJeck's bike, DME's bike and Chippy's also. Let's face it, all the bikes are great rides and I was just thinking that it might help the individual to decide, if there were classes that's all. And as far as which one would go where? I figure that if Joe Blow says he's built a certain style of bike, then that's the class it should be in. Like the 550, I'm currently gathering parts and ideas for. For now, I'm saying that it'll be a Cafe/ Custom/Street Fighter. When I get things rolling good on the project, I figure that it's up to me to decide what style I'm actually going for, you know? My opinions are purely that and we can voice our opinions but, when the decision is made, we all need to just drop it and go with the flow. To me, the bottom line is, if I say it's a Cafe Racer, somebody else should be jumping in and declaring that it's a Bobber, Chopper or whatever. We've had this come up before. That's all I've got. I don't have anything to be nominated or judgeworthy right now anyway. You'll have to excuse me, I fell asleep in my recliner last night(bout' 11:30 or 12), woke up to go to go to bed (bout' 3am), couldn't go back to sleep, been up ever since and now I'm falling to sleep. Gotta go for now, you guys take care and I'll catch you later on, Bill
