Vote for Bike of the Month - Oct '12

So this was my first motorcycle build. It started with my friends scrap company, and the 77 cb750 I found in one of his dumpsters. I've seen some cool cafe bikes at Daytona every year and have always wanted one.  Working in my family hydraulic/ machine/ welding shop has given me a pretty good knowledge of design and fabrication.

My goal was to build a bike using parts I had found or had in my garage.  Building after work and on the weekends this was the result of about 4 1/2months. I also wanted to keep it under a $1000. (which it ended up about $950)

Some high lights
92 gpx600 alum swingarm modified with a built in 3quart oil tank. Also added rear shock mounts for the duel shocks.
Rear half of the frame was remade with .095 seamless.
Custom frame splice. Had a #$%* of a time getting motor in and out.... This fixes that.
92 gpx600 anti dive forks...and triple trees, had to cut the cb stem out of the stock triples and press/weld them into the gpxs. I used these because they are better than stock... And I really liked the aluminum brace/fender
Custom air box setup. Didn't like the pod look so made an aluminum cover, tried to make it look like the triumph setup.  The choke setup is a mix of bicycle parts and a brass handle from a camlock hose fitting.
I have a brakequip machine so I made all custom brake lines and also oil feed lines to the tank. The brakes use new style masters from  a 636
The tank is a spare Ducati 748 tank I had on the shelf.... The stock tank has a flat bottom so I had to use just the shell and make a tunnel for it.
I love the look of race bikes with the vent tube so I brazed on one of them.
The exhaust is a mix of danmoto parts and some tweaked Vance and Hines.
Never used a sewing machine but ended up make my own seat.
Paint was done by latches auto and I, it's BMW alpine white, hotrod red and black. All graphics are painted except for the retro Ducati wing(w/Honda in chevey belair script)
    06 Gsxr rearsets
Electrical was redone.... Rectifier from a zx 636, new adjustable voltage reg from Oregon motorcycle parts. Lithium ion battery. Used 4.5ohm coils.  Bike is kick only, and it has an on toggle, light toggle, and a oil light..... That's it!
Tons of other little things, found an old yellowing oil pressure gauge.... I liked it so I used it. In the end I saved a motorcycle from destruction and I think made something different/cool.

The bike is now in the process of getting spoked 17" supermoto wheels and I'm changing the head pipe to a 4to1 that collects in the center....

Some very inspirational bikes in here.  Looking forward to hearing more from the other builders too before I cast my vote...

My bike started out pretty rough like a lot of the bikes on the forum it ran on 2 cylinders had no front brake, a butchered wiring harness etc. but I felt up for the challenge after reading so many of the project posts on this forum.

In the beginning.....

I had an overall idea of what I wanted to build before I started so I set about stripping the bike down so I could make repairs and do some painting and fabricating....

Not everything went as planned and the paint was a nightmare not even close to the color I wanted...but the results were okay

But I did get it together and on the road for all of 2 months before some dick in a Lexus hit me (it's true his name really was Dick!) then drove off.  Luckily there were no less than 3 witnesses who had the ENTIRE plate number though he denied ever leaving the scene of the accident.  So as not to bore you all it worked out in the end as I received insurance money and was able to fix the paint and make a few other mods that I didn't get to the first time around.  Like cutting the passenger mounting brackets off, rebuilding the gauge and a few other details.

The paint was done by a friend in Minnesota in his garage in fact, everything on my bike was done in my garage or someone else's garage except for mounting of the tires.  Sometimes $ changed hands sometimes parts and along the way I made some new friends which is always cool you can never have enough bike friends.

I was lucky that I wasn't hurt in the accident plus I got to have a bit of a Mulligan on my bike build and I couldn't be happier with the results.

Is the bike done?  The last time I thought that the project was completed I ended up replacing the clutch!  I ride Ginger a lot which included a trip from the Chicago burbs to St. Paul MN in May to visit my friends there and I am constantly on the go with her there is a great classic bike scene in Chicagoland.

Thank you for the nomination and I hope you vote for my bike though the choices are a plenty this month.

For more info on my bike please visit my build thread  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=64240.0  and good luck to all of this months nominees.

Hey Chase...where did you get your seat? Do you have any additional pics? How about those knee indents, did you do that?

Mayor8 sweet paint job. Comfortable looking seat, but do you have any pics with an original style seat?

Vandelay I do not have any pics with an original style seat or an original seat to take pics of and thanks for the compliments on the paint my pal Tim is mighty proud!  He could not have gotten the color I wanted any more perfect.
