46x2mm

Has anyone successfully replaced this gasket? If so, what size did you use if you couldn't find this exact one? I remember I tried replacing it on the last one and got an SAE roughly equivalent, but ended up cracking the cover because it was too thick.

I replaced one on my 650. it sounds like the same size. PM me your address and I'll send one out to you free (USPS).
I had to buy a pack of 50. Only charge to you will be to let me and the forum know if it fits your 550 also. If it does I'll post the part # and source for everyone.

I would replace the pump install a new switch with teflon tape remove the oil pan clean the strainer change the oil and filter use only new parts then go for a ride.
Ride for fun.

Dave: Probably. At all the hardware stores they had mainly SAE stuff, with the only metric stuff being small or popular sizes.

One: Really? Awesome! I'll send you a pm and let you know asap.

Steel: I replaced it a few months ago, and it was perfectly find up until a few days ago. I am doing all that other stuff though. Just waiting on o-rings.

Got the o-rings today. Was surprised that it was a "square" o-ring. Nice and thick though, sat in the groove well.

Went for an hour ride, absolutely no leak.

Thanks again :)

This o-ring worked on my 1980 CB650s, and seems to be good for CB550s also.

I got it from McMaster-Carr, Part number 4061T178.
It is a 1.737" ID, 1.943" OD 0.103" thick square o-ring.

"The square cross section on these rings retains a seal longer than standard O-rings, especially at higher temperatures and pressures. Interchangeable with AS568A O-rings size for size. Buna-N is for use in oil applications. Temperature range is -30° to +212° F. Durometer hardness is A70. Color is black."
