Topic: Looking at a Duc 999

A 999 Biposto came up for sale for a great price, and if there's nothing wrong with it, I might be picking it up.

Anyone have any experience with em? I'm not looking to do any track days (because we don't have a track) or be a hooligan on the street, but I do like ride hard occasionally. I know Ducati is world famous for how uncomfortable the ergos are (and I've felt it firsthand), but I'm on an island, so there's not a whole lot of riding to be done in one sitting.

I got the chance to ride one for my friend before he purchased it, pretty nimble machine with some bite when you crack the throttle. Only thing i dont like about them is the v twin engine though it doesnt sound as sloppy as a hd, I like the exhaust notes of inline 4s

Most amazing bike I've owned, but I'm partial to twins.
Suspension set up is key to really getting the most from the chassis.
As for comfort. Swap out the bars for Speedymoto: or Cyclecat  bars & a Corbin seat for all day comfort.

Great bike to get in trouble with. Very easy to bend certain speed laws on that machine.

To each his/her own. I LOVE the exhaust note of my Ducati (Monster 750) and like it over the modern inline four sound. But, as my Dad says, "That's why they make Chocolate AND Vanilla." Granted, I am also not a big of the dry clutch on most Duc's. My Monster has a wet clutch and will sound better, in my humble opinion, than any Duc with the dry clutch.

Did some more research on my own, and hot damn I would love to own one. But something didn't seem right when I talked to the owner, so I passed on it.

If I had gotten it though, I know it has a dry clutch, but I HATE the sound of open clutch covers, so I would've put a closed cover on it right from the start.

I think I've already made up my mind though on a Scrambler.

key word (when) i start looking for a newer sport bike ill be looking for a 08 or newer Honda CBR1000RR just shy of 200 ponys at the wheel and enough suspension and tire to lay it on its side without going down : )

Im not much of a fan of twins and will never own one, to each their own i suppose.

I did round up from 185 horse but im more than certain about a grand in parts and i could break 200, never could leave "well enough" alone

 A grand might get you 200.. the Beemer has that now.
 The Honda would probably do around 180 on the salt..

They do have 100% better sound coming from their pipes than harleys ill give you that : )
I think ive grown to hate HD's mainly because (most) of their riders just buy into the brand and instantly think they are the hottest sh*t on the road and think they have the right to be an as*hole to anyone who doesnt own or ride one. I still laugh when they roll up next to me at a light when on the CB and think they got me because im on their exhaust side hoping i miss a shift, which hasnt happened yet ; )

What beemer are you speaking of and how much are they running? i havent looked at bmw's since well ever i think they are ugly as sin ( who am i to talk i own a CB lol ) and if they kept up on their trend of over-engineering every little piece on their bikes i dont want any part of it, as i am the mechanic that keeps my vehicles on the road.

Before i get grilled i just checked out BMW's 1000R and its actually quite a snazzy looking bike, but the 15,000 dollar starting price doesnt exactly yank my collar.

A grand? You can barely get a full exhaust and power commander for 1500.

The S1000RR has 185/193 (depending on what magazine you read) at the CRANK. Bikes on the dyno put out about 175 at the wheel.

I don't need the best and the baddest. If I wanted something like that, I'd get a B-King because it just looks amazing.

After doing a bunch more reading and visiting dealerships, I'm leaning towards the Scrambler or Street Triple R.

Come on. Comparing a BMW 1000R to a B-King is a bit retarded isn't it.
After all HP + TQ numbers don't really mean #$%* when the factory has to provide all the electronics to neuter the bike to perform like a 600cc, cause dumb #$%*s like us are likely to splat ourselves in the first week of ownership.

BTW, you won't be disappointed with either Triumph, but my money would be on the Street Triple.

To be honest i wouldnt mess with the exhaust system besides maybe knockin out the baffles, and if i did decide to go for over 200 horse id do it the easy way with some spray ; ).. its complete over-kill imHo to have over 200 available ALL the time.
Naked sport bikes have a bit of a fuglyiness in my eyes, some pull it off like ducati and our CB's but the B king just didnt do it for me. if they would have threw a Busa-like body on it id dig it but it just looks too... idk naked lol.
