Topic: Aluminum Cable Ties

Has anyone found a source or similar alternative for the reusable rubber coated aluminum cable ties used at various locations on the bike to secure the wiring harness?

I realize there are all kinds of cable tie options, I was just looking for something that looked similar to what Japan used back in the day.

Part 21 and 22. Service Honda is pretty good about indicating discontinued parts and these appear to still be available. Probably be a good idea to flip them an e-mail to confirm.

They are available but yes they are the plastic version.  Plenty good unless you're going for a correct resto.  Otherwise here is a possible option from Yamiya.

Rich, I'm on the road so I don't have access to my new ones. They are/were available new but one IS plastic. I think it's the rear ones. Those I have not installed.

Re-married??!! Not many things I wish to do with a female at this point and that is the last. Just use your imagination  You may have well asked me if I want to get rid of my 750F

The originals are pretty easy to restore with some scotchbrite and Plasti-dip (available at Home Depot). Just flatten them out, clean them up, and re-coat the plastic. Very simple and easy to do.

The longer band (band "A") is still available as a punched aluminum band, although they just slide some vinyl tubing over it rather than plasti-dipping it. The shorter band (band "B") is a replacement in black plastic.

I do believe I have all the originals and it sounds like I can clean them up pretty good (thanks SohRon).  Its interesting how my knee-jerk reaction is to replace and then when you find its hard to replace or costly you go back to the original with serious intent and find you can clean them up and make them look nearly new!

I am old school and I seem to remember the cost to chrome parts as being relatively inexpensive.  I went out and put together a bin of parts to take to the chrome shop and then was doing a little research here on the board and had an oh crap moment as it seems I was not budgeting nearly enough as the cost of chrome had sky rocketed due to the EPA issues, hazardous chemicals, etc.  I went back with "serious intent" to my chrome parts and have emptied probably half the bin by just cleaning up the chrome.  I really like the use of aluminum foil as a sandpaper to clean the rust from the chrome, seems to work great.

They are listed as being available on his web site and I just ordered several of both sizes along with a bunch of other OEM honda parts.

Click on "fische" and then "motorcycle" under the honda heading, then the year of your bike, then your particular model. The ties are shown in the "electrical" schematic.

Mcmasterr-Carr lists stainless steel ties.  Panduit makes aluminum ties. 

Try your local Greybar for the Panduit brand or find it online.

I use shrink tubing. It's not as shiny as original but it's close.
Applying some Boeshield or Armor-All helps shine up the plastic a bit.
All the ones I've gotten from Honda are plastic.

The originals flatten out nicely by placing them on a flat smooth surface and rolling over them with a fat deepwell socket.

Shrink wrap is a good idea; I'll have to give it a shot. The 6 and 7mm wire sleeving from Vintage Connections works pretty well, too. It's nice and shiny and fits like a glove. It's what Honda is now using for the stamped "A" bands (or at least they were a year ago), so the idea came straight from the horses mouth, so to speak. In this pic, the sleeved band is in the middle, with an unmolested OEM on the bottom.

Too bad the "B" bands are now plastic. The aluminum originals are going to get rare.

That would be truly motivated.
Of course after cutting all of them the edges would all need to be filed.
Has to be the correct type of aluminum. And you need to punch that slot.
