Topic: Will the 500 overbore kit fit the CB550?

Been watching an auction on ebay for an overbore kit for the CB500. (ebay 290001732166)
Will this kit work in the CB550? How much would need to be bored?
Also, is anyone from this list bidding on the kit? If so, let me know and I will not bid.

I would think you could use it but it would not be much of a bore.  The 500 stock is 56mm and this has a 3mm bore for a total of 59mm.  I believe the 550 stock is 58.5 mm.  Would be a good way to refresh the engine though.

The 555 kit works out to 2nd over size for the 550.  I bought one and have had the cylinders bored and honed, I haven't got everthing back to gether yet , won't be till next year .  Cost me $180 CAD, for the bore and hone, plus have the top leveled.

The auction states the rings are 56mm so I'm thinking this is just a stock kit for the 500?

I bought the CB 500 - 605cc big bore kit for my 550.
I think its just under 600 cc.
Worked out great.

There are a few post on this subject.

But, I'm not sure about the 555 kit in the 550.

Yes the 555 kit will work, and it's too bad the auction is over.  It ended at $44 I think, which is 1/2 what I paid and 1/3 the current price for the kit.

It is available for $120 on eBay - search 'CB500* bore'.  It works out to a 0.5mm overbore on the 550.  I have one in my bike.

The 'bigbore' kit with sleeves looks interesting as well - caferacer550 - how did that work out for you?  Did you use the sleeves?  My concern is what do you do when it comes time to replace the headgasket?
