reconnecting the starter motor?
« on: September 19, 2012, 09:07:24 PM »
well, now that my carbs are done, and i have what i believe to be all the ignition components i need to finally get this bike started.. i also have a battery and would like to test the starting motor and see if perhaps i can get the bike started with this.... but anyone whos been following me knows my bike doesnt really have any electrical system left

i do have a ground battery cable that bolts between the battery and the frame, i have a couple large wires coming out of the compartment where the starter motor sits, umm, no wires connecting the points to the ignition coils so i have no idea how to rewire this...

so... what now? how do i wire this all together to get this thing working? the manual doesnt say much about it besides a somewhat confusing wiring diagram

the starter motor earths to the engine case, its thick black wire goes to one side of a solenoid,,the other terminal of the solenoid goes to the battery positive,,the two small wires out of the solenoid are for the starter button,,power goes to one via the key switch, then the start button earths out the other and the solenoid operates, this can also be visa versa, the solenoid is just a big heavy duty relay switch,it connects the starter cable to the battery positive so long as you hold the button.,,you have missing/modified wiring?have you got a local buddy who can help?
if you touch that starter black wire to the battery itll spin the starter so long as its body is earthed, you might try jumping it with starter cables.

If the starter isn't in the bike hold tight. :)
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

ill try scraping the black cable of the starter across the positive battery terminal then to see if the starter works, and to try to get this started

stick it in a vise before you hurt yourself

Or you could get drunk with a buddy and jumper it and watch it flop around on the floor.

these arent real bad,a car one is worse as the pinion solenoid throws out aswell, strangest starter ive seen is a clock work wind up one thats on a diesel fork lift that operates in a flammable gaseous area.
