70s dragbike barn find rebuild
« on: September 21, 2012, 06:25:16 AM »
Found this in a barn at a friends house, it had a CB750A motor with a drouin supercharger on it. I was finally able to trade some labor on a KZ1000 engine rebuild to get the roller.
Working on gathering parts for it, had another friend donate an F2 motor that I'm using as a mockup.
So far I have a RC mag for it and some 40mm Dellortos on a Lynx manifold, I'm having a hard time with an exhaust system because of the frame any ideas?

I was just looking at the V&H system on mine but I think the down tube on yours would be in the way.

If you get real stuck, you could get one custom made. My friend Juha (lieno on here) had one made for his GS, fantastic job, it allowed him to lower the front end without it fouling the front tyre.

Turbo pipe sound interesting, HMF exhaust is local and I know the owner but he's not cheap.I do have the an early CB750 motor with the slip over spicots and separate head pipes, but I think I would be leaving some power on the table.

Thats a nice find  ;).  It sure looks like it must have been an "interesting ride " looking at the back half of that frame  ;D ;D . Good luck with the build . Greg "H".

Lewis, the slip over spigots are a straight swap over. You just need to swap the studs for countersunk screws.
Don't go for the OEM philip screws, get the Allen type.

I'll have to go rob them off my other engine I was saving for a cr750 project. That will work for a start.

Well here's a pic with a stock 72 head pipe on #1 cylinder, broke my #2 bit after removing the first one F&*$K. I think it will keep my feet warm on those cool nights though.

What is the front wheel from?  Being drum, it wouldn't be a 750.

That yellow is Awesome!  Keep it!!!  One thing a drag bike should NEVER be is Dignified!!!  Audacious, unapologetic, brazen, but NEVER dignified!!!
