I just joined the forum yesterday and am looking forward to learning a lot about the SOHC's.  They are my favorite Honda motorcycles and hold a lot of significance in my family.
I just purchased this bike from my cousin and I plan on doing some tweaking and a lot work to make it look nice.  the bike is a 72 but the engine is 76.  the turn signals are 75's, the fenders are not original neither is the seat.  I am not planning on restoring this to all original 1972, but I would like the majority of the parts to be from 1972.  Just last weekend I finally got the bike running the way it should.  I had to switch the main jets, it now has 125s, retard the timing ( it was advanced way to far when I got it), file the points and sync the carbs.  Now that I have it running the way it should I am looking to do a lot of work to clean up the engine and the paint on it.  I'll keep posting pictures as I make progress on it.

you will find the answers to anything you need on this forum, if you cant find it through searching, all you gotta do is ask, and someone will know for sure.  There are some VERY knowledgable people on this forum

welcome!  i LOVE the yellow, and congrats on getting her running smoothly!   

+1 on getting a stock seat.  those old king+queen seats always remind me of a double-toilet.  ;)  luckily you'll have months of cruddy weather to work on cleaning it up :)

The yellow paint is peeling off. It was like that when I got it, I was thinking of painting it Honda Red, but I am open to suggestions.  The seat on it now is pretty comfortable but will be replaced

Awww that's a shame about the paint.  Me, I'd stay with the yellow.  I like it because it's a rarer color.  Honda red is good too,  though.  My car is that color ;)

Well plans changed and I went out of the country for 3 months, so now I am back and starting the project again.  I now have the chance to work on it everyday which makes me very happy.  I am looking to clean up the engine some, starting tomorrow.  I am going to try using some non-chlorinated break cleaner and engine degreaser to get most of the dirt and grime off of the engine.  any other suggestions on what to use as a cleaner? I am also looking to paint the engine, probably black to match the headers.  I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what paint to use on the exhaust?  Does anyone have any ideas?

to get the grease/oil/dirt out from between the fins i used Qtips and denatured alcohol.  worked well and didn't seem to hurt the paint.

Thanks, I will give that a try.  I bought some more engine degreaser too.  I have been working at slowly tearing down the bike and finding out some interesting little things, such as it as a 630 chain instead of a 530 but still has stock sprockets.  I started at the rear and took the fender off then started working at the wiring harness which i will continue more tomorrow.  I had a parts bike lined up but the guy backed out on me so its back to square one on looking for a parts bike.  Here are some picture updates.

That seat could never be comfortable on the eyes!! Enjoy the bike though....they really are a blast.

I got the wiring harness off today which was a bigger project than I thought it would be. I made sure to label some wires just in case partly because the previous owners did some homemade wiring which I couldn't follow.  I am looking forward to taking the engine out and start cleaning it. 
I am not a big fan of the seat, I don't like the way it feels when I sit in it.  It pushes me to far forward on the bike, but that is just me.  It'll work til I get another one though.

Agreed, as ugly as they are they sure are comfy.  I once cut one down and made a solo seat for one of my 400 fours.  very comfy ;)

Best part is it did not cost me a dime, and it did keep the seat out of the dump.  Thanks for the compliment...Larry

I'm heading to Michigan tomorrow to look at a 73 Honda CB 750K as a parts bike and i'm pretty excited. This could change the idea of the build I want to do but we'll have to see if the price is right.  I'm still plugging away at it piece by piece. I have the header off and am ready to take the rear wheel off.  Its a day by day process.

Well I bought the bike.  It will serve as a good parts bike for me.  Between the two bikes I think I can combine the two and make one really good one.  I don't like the chopper theme to bike so I will probably get rid of the handlebars first thing.  I know the bike has a cam in it because I got the stock one and a bunch of other parts in a box.  The guy I bought it from said it had a 950 big bore kit in it but I don't believe him.  Has anyone heard of a 950 kit.  I know that inorder to bore a 750 that big it would have to have bigger jugs and some machining to the top of the cylinders.  So I am skeptical about the big bore kit but excited to continue my project.

The bike is ready to be blasted this weekend then painted. Then I can start putting back together after cleaning all the chrome.

Tonight was a big night and a late one. I was so excited to use my buddies sand blaster that I had to do it tonight. For my first time I didn't think it was to bad although next time I will be more patient. So here is the progress made tonight.  Sorry, I didn't take a pic of the header, I was at my neighbors shop.

Looking good so far! You can remove the VIN tag; it's just held on with rubber cement and a couple of pins. Makes it easier to paint or powdercoat without having to mask the tag. Just FYI.
