Calipers are not the proper tool to be measuring inside diameters. A dial bore gauge or an inside micrometer should be used to get an accurate measurement.

I think he is talking about the outside of the pistons

I would think his video method Is not reliable due to the wear is only where rings ride the upper cylinder may have a lip so to speak. It needs to be checked as you have stated north south east and west

Indeed, the pistons measure as above which is what I am interested in, skirts are the same all the way down, but the top is curved in

Re: Triple clamp offset
« Reply #79 on: March 26, 2013, 02:36:43 pm »
So if anyone wants to jump in on this,

I am thinking about making custom triples as i have some access to CNC equipment.

I'm thinking of something like these, i like the clamp design and the adjustable offset.

Any further news on the triple trees?

Did not end up making triples. I adapted the ZX-6 front end using the CB750 spindle and a bit of machining work.

So it turns out that it is quite normal for the crown of the piston to taper in. My bores measured out .001-.002 out of round, so worth reboring, but not nearly as bad as I thought. Need to get my drinking under control ;)

In other news the swingarm is almost done, sold my front end and the rear wheel is pending pickup.

Still need to find:
X Front wheel
X Brake lines
X Tires
Petcock
Pistons _ ordered
Gaskets _ ordered
Rear master _ overrated

Need to fab:
X Tank relocation
X Wheel spacers
X Cushion mounts
X Headlight mount
Seat _ overrated

And get the motor bored and reassembled

3 weeks, lets go. She may not be pretty by then, but she's gotta work.

So I haven't posted here in a while, been busy with school and whatnot. Also got some bike work done...

I got a rear wheel

Did some swingarm work

And a front wheel and tires. A CB 750 does fit in a toyota matrix, just in case you were wondering. My GF's car.

And the finished-ish frame as it sits. I didnt like the lower shock mount so it was replaced with a steel version to lower it a bit and give me some peace of mind.

Unfortunately my pistons seem to be not here yet, as well as the rest of my motor parts :(. So my Sunday deadline will probably come and go, but maybe next week will be better...

Yeah, the 180 tire looks right at home back there, just wish I had a motor to put in.

And no, no time or money for that sht

Spray bombs lets go... Maybe next winter after the bugs are ironed out and the swingarm has broken once or twice...

Not likely, but I needed them to clear the tank easily for now, after everything is installed properly I'll look at dialing bar positions

Motor is in place for transport... If anyone has any style suggestion you should make them now, cause next week the details will all be finished up.

I'm more into dragracing but i like the way you're doing the streetfighter look on this build. Great  work so far with the monoshock set up and ZX frontend. Looking forward to the final product.

Wow, so I apologize for letting this one die for so long, but i have news!

Despite major setbacks in the motor department, the bike is now on the road and 95% complete.

Parts Case

Motor Assembled

Final Mock up

Back to original ('76) Keihin Carbs

Road Ready...

Awful Cell pic of Exhaust mockup. Style is ok, implementation is questionable. May order some stainless UJ bends and trim a third off the can to clear the arm. Time will tell

Nowadays I use solidworks 2011, in the past I used UGS nx8.

I think everything in this thread is SW2011

I'm going to try to do a photo/vid shoot tomorrow or sunday. Still trying to get my hands on jets so i can get this show on the road. Had to tape off 70% of the pod area so she wouldn't overheat and explode, now fire shoots out of the exhaust when you go on or off the throttle, but boy she pulls at WOT. Can't wait to stop fighting her and start riding her  ;)

And a question if anyone is still watching this thread. The muffler is a Hindle Stealth ~24" Glass Pack 2" inside. Is that enough flow or should I make up some new internals for the can. It'd be simple enough to convert it to 2.25 or 2.5 to match the rest of the system. Or on the same card cut it in half and run a short pipe on each side split just post collector? Opinions welcome. I've always enjoyed single sided systems on everything, but then I've never had dual pipes...
The bike isn't symmetrical, so why should it look the same on both sides? A pair of 12" pipes may end up much louder than now too, which is borderline. It would probably look pretty cool too.

Anyways, its good to be back. Come by and say hi!
