Found this one last weekend on craigslist...for $500 I couldn't say no...Got it back to the shop, jumpered a battery, added gas...and it fired right up and idled...

In Ireland you would not get anything like that for less than $3000!

It's a k6...to be perfectly honest it didn't come with that seat...came with the proverbial Corbin king/queen...I think I have four of 'em collecting dust right now...thinking about designing living room furniture or something...the bike has already had the rh switch replaced, but it seems like somebody did a decent job...and it's too bad the og four into four is gone, never cared for turn outs...and the high way bars have already been removed

thanks Mick, you will be welcome in Michigan...I think Michigan might be one of the best places in the world to find old Jap bikes...but shhh, don't tell anyone

As reported from the guy I bought it from, the previous owner was a collector and had taken steps to store the bike properly. The bike seems to have been off the road since 2001. The tank and carbs have been carefully drained and a quick inspection of a float bowl and the tank interior showed them to be spotless. All the air box and carb clamps had been loosened. Even the master cylinder had been purged of fluid. Unfortunately, this didn't save it as someone had pulled the lever, seizing the dry piston into the bore. Fortunately, I had a spare master cylinder on hand, and have already overhauled the caliper and bled the system.

...other than that, I've been spending time cleaning...I will be able to better assess what I am going to do with this bike once it's clean. I can tell you now it will stay as stock as is practical. Looks like the biggest immediate requirement will be decent rubber...Some of the chrome, and the frame in spots, has some nasty looking rust but nothing is gonna fall apart and overall the bike seems unmolested and presentable...

I've been to Michigan before! About 20 years ago I spent a weeks holiday in Harbour Springs in Northern Michigan. Right on the shores of the lake. A beautiful part of the world.

Unfortunately, I couldn't carry back any bikes through Pelston Airport!

There are times when I'm looking through the ads in Classic Motorcycle Mechanics that I have to show the wife what my worthless bikes are going for in the UK. Here, nobody's even interested in something like an H1. Which is good for us restorers.

Mick, that's a very beautiful area of the state with some of the best roads for riding...Killer Canary. I haven't found any cheap H1's around here yet, and believe me, I've been looking...

I've trashed a couple and sold one of those seats for shipping. They take up too much valuable storage space for me to keep.

I think we would be hard pushed to find any kind of runner for $500 here.

...so the brakes are fixed, I fixed a leaky oil line(the fittings were loose), I slapped a battery in it, a plate...set the point gap and timing....time for a little spin. This thing runs perfect right out of the box, turn outs have a nice mellow burble(I still dislike how they look) overall me likey and me very happy. Definately needs the handling straightened out with a nasty combination of what I believe to be the original tire and some nasty hardened up steering stem bearing grease. Spent yesterday evening cleaning and swapping some other wheels that have like new Cheng Shins...ran into a rather wide variety of axel adjusters while diggin' in the parts bin. Can anybody id/breakdown the deal with these different ones? I noticed with the thicker ones with the 14mm adjuster bolts that you can't get a cotter pin through the axel if you use the usual big old chrome washer under the axel nut. I will do up the timing chain, adjust valve clearance and more fresh oil and filter asap.

Anyway, the bike rides good overall. I got to put about 300 trouble free miles on it before a buddy made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Probably just as well, as now I will have no temptations to start modding this fairly original survivor...

Looks really nice. Tank wasn't repainted right, super clean! So are you going to find another project?

nope...paint is all original....I got 2 cb750 projects going on right now, a kz1000, an rd350, and a couple dirt bikes...so yeah, I need another project

The sale of this one is funding cylinder head rebuilds for the kz1000 and a cb750

WOW, friend discount? you say KZ 1000? I have two buddies that just picked up a KZ900 Eliminator and a kz1000 Eliminator. They have lots of spare parts if thats what you have.
