Has anyone built a bobber bike? Any pointers? ?
« on: September 22, 2012, 03:29:48 PM »
K .. I think I want to try and  build a sweet 750 bobber.  The problem is I have no idea where to start.  It seems like the bike is at a nice sized lean ...from front  to rear ..... how do they do that? ? Im.guessing there's cutting and welding involved.  Can someone just toss me some basic bobber building information.  Im not big on the whole sitting back lounge ride but are bobbers  able to have the clipons race bars and rearsets footing instead or would that make my ride stupid .. and or uncomfortable?  Can anyone post up some of there own bobber pics if you have any?  Thanks  again!

I've never built one but from looking at photos it looks like there are about twenty different ways to go. Don't think I've ever seen one with rear set foot pegs/controls. Cycle exchange has frames if you're well heeled. They also have extended forks and shortened rear shocks. They also have offset sprockets if you decide to use a fat rear tire/wheel.

Finished mine a while back and steered away from that "lounged back" chopper look you're talking about.

Made my own clip ons that clip on the forks above the triple tree when I lowered the front.

There's many ways you can go whether it be a dropseat frame, springer seat, and how far you  want the hardtail to be stretched, if any.

Sorry
I was replying from my phone and it would only let me upload one at a time.

I wanted mine to be more or less a "rat rod" bike if you will.

I think I successfully pulled that off with this one  8)

The chrome and nice spotless motors just doesn't appeal to me on these bobbers but to each his own

I built my CB750 bobber with a stock frame and a Cycle One hard tail. I'm running mid controls with highway pegs. I just went out to build a CB750 bobber that was 70's period correct.

Here's a link to my build: http://hondachopper.yuku.com/topic/27607/I-m-calling-it-Kickin-It?page=1#.UF_Ru6BU2So

Build it the way you want and ride the heck out of it.

I've got a K2 that's almost finished after a tidy up - no show bike but hopefully reliable and pretty stock. When I bought it I was actually only looking for a Honda 750 4 motor to go into a Santee swing arm chopper frame I had bought on eBay. Won't suit everyone but if and when i do the chopper thing I want to go for a similar look to what you'll find if you check out Walz Hardcore Choppers on line. I reckon this guy has absolutely nailed the custom look, and also think a 750 4 motor would add to the look in something like he's building. I like the forks raked as well when the head stem stays low. Walz is worth a look. Happy hunting for ideas and good luck! Slug

it depends on what your after hard tail (is like the title reads) hard on your tail. plunger frames are really not that much better.both styles will have you jumping around under certain road conditions so you need to take that into consideration. a hard tail when you hit pot holes and bumps will tend to throw you off the seat the plunger frames will do the same but not as bad.if you was thinking about keeping the shocks.that would probably be the best way to go for now.then you can get used to the feel of a bobber/chopper style.either way they are very fun if your thinking about changing the tank the old mustang tanks look better on stock frames. the peanut/sportser tanks don't go with a stock frame in my opinion. here are two of them i built the hard atil has to go it was way to rough the amen savior bike i still have and probably will until the day i die.

I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"

I did more of a brat style(rear suspension) then a bobber. Like everyone said, tons of ways to build. Just go after what you like. From what I've seen, the frame on the 750's lends itself to the cafe style more then the 650 that I have. The line down the back bone is pretty horizontal. Whatever way you go good luck
