PC is definitely more durable than paint but I doubt it would make a lot of difference on the pads of the CS.  Just look at the surface damage done to the steel by the concrete surfaces.  PC is not harder than the steel.  It would abrade just like the paint would, maybe just a little slower.  Now to PC the CS is a good idea for long term appearance sake, it just wouldn't hold up on the bottom of the pads.

Yeah. I struggled, then it came to me. Piece of cake. Not necessary but hlps if you shove a shim in between each spring coil, like a dime, or slivers of flashing. This will extend the length of the spring.

Then put the hook and spring on. Then feed in the pivot pin, I prefer from the left. As you feed it in, lever the stand up into position. Still a struggle but it works.

+1 on putting something between the coils.  I put a cheap Home Depot spring inside the centerstand spring.  Worked great.

I fannied about for an hour bending a spring on a vice & slotting coins between the coils without success. I could never get the spring long enough and trying to balance the coins on either side of the spring to keep the whole straight was not easy.

Centerstand?  nope, I keep it on the tool shelf.  It gets put on when the tools come out.  Why are you guys doing all this parking anyway?...I just keep riding

I hook the spring up before I install the pivot tube, it slips straight in

Center stand is more stable. Center stand takes up less room to park, in or outside.

And if you ever had a tank with pin holes in it, they   develop way  more often where the water settles on the low (kickstand) side.

Geee, this is an interesting thread.
Now, not to guide it into the mother of all debates, but didn't Honda built the heads so that at least some oil remains near the camshaft when parked on the CS to reduce cold start wear? I remember having read that the 350 Four head was designed that way.

Yes sir.  Last picture in this post:  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=55856.msg601603#msg601603  It's a 400f head but the 350 is the same way.

i removed my center stand when i went with a right-side 4-1 exhaust.  kinda had to, since the center stand stop was connected to the left side exhaust.  works fine that way, and when it's going to be parked for a while i just burn off the fuel in the carbs. 

in the winter i am going to drain/rinse my tank and store it inside.  last winter i put a bunch of silica packets in it, sealed it in a big plastic bag, and kept it in the basement to avoid temp fluctuations causing condensation.

Most 4-1s provide a centerstand stop bracket. They usually get lost when the pipe changes hands.  A simple "L" shaped bracket hanging from a rear footpeg mount, often on the right side with the pipe.

i bought a new MAC 4-1, all it came with was a hanger bracket    it's OK though because i'm not heavy enough to get it to rock back on the center by myself....  yeah yeah i'm a wuss... lol

Curious. I'd a thunk the MAC would've had the CS stop.

AS to raising it on the CS, its all technique, several threads on the issue. Very little strength or weight involved.

true.  a PO of my bike must have not liked the CS because my tank developed many pin holes on the kick stand side at the bottom, nothing a caswell kit couldnt fix

I use the SS most of time during the summer months, and the CS during the rainy season or when I know it will be parked for a while.
