have another look at the specs for the boyer micro power hondaman, the coils draw less than the stock ones in use,the average consumption is less than 1.5 amps.

Do you have a good place for me to look? The last time I used them was about 11 years ago. Maybe their design changed? At that time, they used the stock OEM coils or the 3-ohm coils from Dyna/Accel, hence the high current draw.
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Amps? Watts? I'm confused.   :o

The alternator on the bikes are rated in the watts they produce: it is pretty easy then to add up the lamp wattage (40w headlight, etc.) and the overall total ignition draw(s). Then you don't have to convert the alternator watts to amps, then add up the amps, wondering if the battery is at 12 volts or 13 volts, etc... :)

I'm lazy, as most engineers are, in this sort of calc.

+1 for the HM unit. I installed one last year, and I just got my first look at the points after 2700 miles. No wear, no pitting, they look just like they did a year ago. Palpable performance upgrade as well. Mark does a great job at a very reasonable price with that unit. (I'm using Dyna 5k ohm coils).

I have an accent set up from Germany it appears to be the same unit in the picture.  Improved cranking, idle and performance.  I have had it only about 6 months.

If you use stock Honda coils:
The extra load from my unit is 1.2 watts.

Shoot, you could lose that much and more from a single dirty connector.
